Senior Games User Researcher
About The Position
Tencent is seeking an experienced Senior Games User Researcher in Los Angeles to join Checkpoint, a team that supports second-party game studios and works to elevate user research. The role leads research initiatives across several games, builds stakeholder relationships, operates the Los Angeles user research lab, and contributes to the team’s research practices. The researcher will work with award-winning studios to provide timely insights from target audiences and help teams deliver their intended game experiences. The position works across multiple game genres and strengthens the Los Angeles research function while staying connected with the larger team in London. The role is based full time in the Playa Vista office, and most research is conducted in person in a dedicated lab.
Requirements
- Several years of hands-on experience delivering user research projects in the entertainment field.
- Experience with analytics, telemetry, quantitative data, and survey data.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to express complex ideas effectively.
- Ability to work independently as a self-starter while remaining culturally connected with a geographically distributed team.
- Passion for games user research and helping teams create the best possible experience for their audience.
Nice To Haves
- User research experience in video games, preferably across PC, console, and mobile.
- Experience conducting in-person research in Los Angeles.
- A degree or studies in human-computer interaction, psychology, sociology, or a field with a relevant focus on qualitative research.
- Current familiarity with a variety of game genres and business models.
Responsibilities
- Build relationships across the organization to drive relevant and impactful research.
- Work with studios and external producers to establish research strategies for their titles.
- Partner with the Consumer Insights team to develop a comprehensive view of games and provide holistic insights.
- Deliver end-to-end research for PC and mobile titles, from setting goals to delivering reports, using appropriate methods.
- Mentor and develop the Junior Researcher in Los Angeles.
- Maintain Los Angeles research operations so studies can be conducted at pace.
- Engage with the Checkpoint user research team to maintain a common culture and ways of working.
