Senior Full Stack Engineer
About The Position
Council Capital is a healthcare-focused private equity firm based in Nashville, Tennessee, managing over $350 million in committed capital. They invest in lower middle market healthcare companies with the potential to scale purpose and performance, spanning control and minority positions in businesses with enterprise values between $10 million and $100 million. Their unique approach, the Council Model, surrounds founders and leadership teams with a combination of support from a CEO Council of seasoned operators, Strategic Healthcare Investors, and an internal Value Creation Team. Council Capital aims to build enduring businesses that improve lives and shape the future of healthcare. This is a senior individual contributor position focused on building services and interfaces on a cloud platform. The role involves working closely with product teams and taking ownership of features from request to deployment without fully specified requirements. The team utilizes a trunk-based development flow with short-lived branches and a daily rhythm, breaking work into one to two-day pieces. Code review is constant and reciprocal, with daily progress visibility. This role is not suitable for individuals who prefer long development cycles without frequent check-ins.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience in a modern language, building REST APIs and single page applications
- Working knowledge of cloud technology, including containers and stateless app development
- Relational database development experience with broad depth (not just expertise in one engine)
- Experience in a version-controlled development environment
- Quick study and ability to become useful in unfamiliar stacks within weeks, not months
- Ability to seek the root cause before building, preferring to ask clarifying questions rather than deliver the wrong solution
- Ability to decide autonomously and know when to check in or proceed, generating own work items with sound judgment
- Comfortable thinking in abstractions, viewing stateless, containerized design on an evolving platform as interesting
- Unwavering on data ethics—nobody needs to remind you about proper production data handling
- Accepts code review without defensiveness and acts on feedback; review is daily and reciprocal
- Adopts the team’s patterns and engages in design discussions early, rather than pushing back in pull requests
- Maintains a steady pace over years, preferring consistent output to bursts of heroics followed by burnout

Responsibilities
- Building features end-to-end: REST APIs, single page application work, and the underlying data model
- Designing on a cloud platform with containers and stateless services, working through architectural questions with the team
- Taking product requests, shaping them into work items, and building them
- Reviewing teammate pull requests each week, and delivering code that follows the team’s existing patterns
- Relational database development: schema, queries, and associated performance considerations
- Protecting patient data; zero PHI in development environments, with no exceptions or workarounds
