Senior Full-Stack Engineer – E-commerce (Shopify)

About The Position

The Senior Full-Stack Engineer will design and build performant web frontends and scalable backend services, with a focus on the Shopify e-commerce platform. The role includes developing custom Shopify apps and Functions, checkout customizations, and integrations with Shopify Admin and Storefront APIs. The engineer will manage Shopify pricing and inventory logic across Markets and Catalogs, including multi-currency, regional availability, and inventory levels. The position owns features end to end, from technical design and architecture through testing, deployment, and monitoring. Responsibilities also include integrating third-party services, experimenting with open-source libraries and AI-driven features, improving CI/CD pipelines and engineering processes, and creating appropriate unit, functional, and end-to-end tests. The engineer will contribute to the team's long-term technical direction, build cost-efficient solutions designed to scale, and mentor junior developers through pairing, code reviews, and knowledge sharing. For roles based at the headquarters in Milpitas, California, the stated annual base salary range is $170,000–$185,000. Actual pay may vary based on job-related factors, and the range may change.

Requirements

At least 5 years of software development experience, ideally across frontend and backend.
Hands-on experience with Shopify, including Admin and Storefront GraphQL APIs, metafields, webhooks, and checkout.
Understanding of Shopify Functions, particularly for discounts.
Understanding of Shopify pricing and inventory, including Markets and Catalogs, price and compare-at price, inventory locations, and inventory levels.
Strong command of JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frameworks such as React, Next.js, or Vue.
Backend experience with Node.js, Python, or similar, and solid API architecture skills using REST or GraphQL.
Understanding of AWS services such as Lambda, S3, EventBridge, and SQS, and of event-driven architectures.
Understanding of deployment pipelines, including CI/CD, environments, release, and rollback.
Understanding of unit, functional, and end-to-end testing approaches.
Ability to build cost-efficient solutions designed to scale.

Strong communication skills, including explaining features and full-stack architecture to technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

Design and build interactive, performant web frontends using modern JavaScript frameworks.

Build and extend the Shopify platform, including custom apps, Shopify Functions, checkout customizations, and Admin/Storefront API integrations.
Own Shopify pricing and inventory logic across Markets and Catalogs, including price and compare-at price, multi-currency, multi-region availability, and inventory levels.
Integrate third-party APIs and platforms such as Stripe, ERP, PIM, search, and recommendation engines.
Use open-source libraries to create experimental and production-ready features.
Prototype and test AI-driven features.
Own features end to end, from technical design and architecture through testing, deployment, and monitoring.
Contribute to and improve CI/CD deployment pipelines.
Write and maintain unit, functional, and end-to-end tests.
Look for ways to improve and automate business and engineering processes.
Ensure deliverables contribute to the team's longer-term technical vision rather than being one-off solutions.
Mentor junior developers through pairing, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
Stay hands-on and experiment with new ideas.
