About The Position

ZipStaff is hiring a Senior Full Stack Engineer for a client described as a major U.S. passenger rail transportation organization based in Washington, DC. The role supports mission-critical operations applications and is focused approximately 75–80% on backend distributed architecture and 20–25% on Angular front-end development. The engineer will deliver fault-tolerant microservices, event-driven systems, and AWS CI/CD solutions. The position is an 11-month W2 contract and is onsite in Washington, DC.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of production backend engineering experience, with a secondary focus on modern front-end development.
• Deep experience with Java 17/21, Spring Boot, Spring Security, Spring Data, and PostgreSQL.
• Experience with event-driven systems using Apache Kafka or AWS MSK, including DLTs, idempotency, and consumer rebalancing.
• Experience with Angular v15+, TypeScript, RxJS, and Tailwind, PrimeNG, or Angular Material.
• Experience with Resilience4j and automated testing using JUnit 5 and Spring Boot Test.
• Experience with Docker on AWS and GitHub Actions or AWS CodeBuild.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

• NgRx state management.
• Spring WebFlux, Avro/JSON Schema, or Confluent Schema Registry.
• Playwright end-to-end automation.
• Transportation, rail, fleet, or logistics domain experience.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain Spring Boot microservices using Java 17/21, including REST and reactive endpoints.
• Architect Spring Kafka pipelines, including ordering, retries, dead-letter topics (DLTs), idempotency, and schema evolution.
• Model and optimize data using Spring Data JPA, Hibernate, and PostgreSQL; build Spring Batch jobs.
• Implement Resilience4j patterns and security using Spring Security, OAuth2, JWT, and AWS Secrets Manager.
• Build accessible UI features using Angular v15+, TypeScript, and RxJS.
• Write JUnit 5 and Spring Boot Test suites and contribute to Playwright end-to-end tests.
• Containerize applications with Docker and run CI/CD using GitHub Actions and AWS CodeBuild.
• Lead code reviews, mentor developers, and support production incidents.
