About The Position

The Senior Full Stack Engineer will work on a custom community platform for personal development, coaching, courses, community forums, and daily engagement. The product is currently in private beta and has a substantial existing codebase, with significant engineering work remaining before public launch. The engineer will initially work closely with the platform’s designer and builder, then take increasing responsibility for its architecture, production readiness, technical operations, and ongoing evolution. The role is backend-focused while also involving hands-on Vue.js frontend development. It includes assessing and improving the existing platform, owning features end to end, working with internal and external engineering partners, and supporting integrations and production operations. The position is contract-to-hire: the initial contractor period is three months, with the opportunity to transition to a full-time W2 role with benefits based on performance. Candidates must be available for at least 5–6 hours overlapping an 8–5 or 9–6 MST schedule. The position is not available in California, New York, New Jersey, or Pennsylvania.

Requirements

  • 8 to 12+ years of software engineering experience, including strong production experience with Vue.js and deep hands-on experience with relational database design.
  • Proven experience owning significant portions of a production platform across backend architecture, databases, APIs and integrations, infrastructure, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and production support.
  • Experience assessing production applications for security, scalability, reliability, and performance risks, including identifying vulnerabilities, protecting sensitive customer data, diagnosing bottlenecks, and implementing pragmatic improvements.
  • Strong backend engineering depth and the technical judgment to understand an existing system holistically and take responsibility for its architecture and technical health.
  • Experience reviewing and validating other engineers’ or external development partners’ work, including architecture, code quality, testing, security, scalability, and production readiness.
  • Ability to quickly understand and contribute within an existing codebase and technical direction, identifying material risks and making pragmatic improvements rather than defaulting to unnecessary rewrites or redesigns.
  • Experience owning production readiness, including monitoring, incident troubleshooting, release processes, technical QA, and resolving critical production issues.
  • Proven experience using AI coding agents on a production codebase to improve productivity without replacing engineering judgment.
  • Excellent organization and self-sufficiency, with the ability to operate independently and make sound technical decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Enthusiasm for working in a startup environment and a track record of adapting to changing priorities and taking increasing technical ownership as a company scales.
  • Proven experience owning entire features and systems from architecture and data modeling through implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing production support.
  • Availability for at least 5–6 hours overlapping an 8–5 or 9–6 MST schedule.

Nice To Haves

  • PostgreSQL experience is preferred; Nuxt and Prisma experience are a plus.
  • Background in regulated industries or high-volume e-commerce, particularly involving sensitive customer data, compliance requirements, high transaction volumes, and many concurrent users.
  • Production experience with AI/LLM architecture, including RAG, agents, context management, model integrations, or similar systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the production codebase for security vulnerabilities, scalability and performance bottlenecks, architecture risks, data protection concerns, and reliability issues; prioritize and implement improvements for a safe, stable public launch.
  • Take increasing ownership of the platform’s technical health and architecture, ultimately becoming its internal technical owner for stability, security, scalability, reliability, and continued evolution.
  • Own features end to end, from data modeling and architecture through implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
  • Work across the full stack with a strong backend focus, while contributing hands-on to Vue.js frontend development and customer experience.
  • Serve as the internal technical counterpart to outside engineering partners by reviewing architecture and code, validating deliverables, and ensuring work meets product, security, scalability, and production requirements.
  • Partner with the existing platform engineer on technical knowledge transfer covering architecture, codebase, environments, infrastructure, accounts, deployment, documentation, and operational procedures.
  • Own production readiness and technical operations, including monitoring, troubleshooting, incident response, release readiness, technical QA, and escalation of production issues.
  • Design, automate, and execute functional, regression, load, and smoke testing.
  • Identify and communicate technical risks early, distinguishing material engineering concerns from personal preferences.
  • Design and evolve relational data models, PostgreSQL schemas, queries, indexes, migrations, and Prisma models.
  • Work across integrations including Stripe Connect, LiveKit, Twilio, Zoom, Anthropic, and pgvector.
  • Use AI coding agents to accelerate development while maintaining standards for correctness, reliability, security, and maintainability.
  • Ideally contribute to production AI architecture, including LLM integrations, RAG, agents, context management, retrieval, evaluation, and production reliability.
