About The Position

SAIC’s STG is seeking a talented and motivated Senior Front-End Software Engineer to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The role designs, develops, and maintains modern, accessible, user-centric web applications that support complex, high-stakes decision-making workflows. The engineer collaborates with UX designers, backend engineers, data scientists, and AI/ML specialists to integrate AI-driven insights into intuitive front-end experiences. Although the primary focus is front-end development, the role also works closely with cloud and backend services teams to deliver secure, performant, and scalable end-to-end solutions in support of Veterans and the VA mission. The position can be performed remotely within the United States for the right candidate.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience, and 5 years of experience; alternatively, a master’s degree and 3 years of experience.
• Ability to obtain CompTIA Security+ certification within 90 days of employment.
• Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
• Ability to obtain a secret clearance.
• Hands-on experience building front-end web applications using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Experience with at least one modern front-end framework or library, such as ReactJS, Angular, or Vue.
• Experience with Material UI or a similar component library.
• Experience using Git version control with platforms such as GitLab or GitHub.
• Experience working in a cloud environment such as AWS or Azure.
• Experience integrating front-end applications with backend services and RESTful APIs.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative Agile environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain front-end web applications using modern web technologies such as TypeScript/JavaScript and React, Angular, or similar frameworks.
• Build and style responsive, accessible, user-friendly interfaces for VA stakeholders.
• Integrate front-end components with backend REST services and APIs, collaborating with backend engineers to support AI-enabled workflows.
• Collaborate with AI/ML engineers to incorporate AI-driven insights and decision support into user interfaces and front-end workflows, including using AI tools such as Claude for development and research.
• Apply front-end best practices for performance, security, and scalability in a cloud-hosted environment such as AWS or Azure.
• Work with UX designers and product owners to translate requirements and wireframes into production-ready UI components and screens.
• Support front-end testing, debugging, and performance optimization, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing where applicable.
• Maintain documentation for front-end components, UI patterns, and integration points with APIs and platform services.
