Senior Front-End Engineer

Mochi HealthSan Francisco, CA
Onsite

About The Position

Mochi Health is seeking a Senior Front-End Engineer to own the interfaces that patients and medical providers rely on. The company is building an AI-driven marketplace to make healthcare discoverable, connecting patients to providers, transparent pharmacy pricing, and affordable medications. The role involves architecting client-side state, building responsive UI, optimizing performance, and owning frontend observability. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex product problems with significant impact on patient outcomes in a fast-growing healthcare technology company.

Requirements

  • 5-7+ years of frontend engineering experience.
  • Experience building and operating production React applications with real complexity, handling dense data visualization and polished user experiences.
  • Mastery of React and state architecture fundamentals, including a deep understanding of the React render cycle and complex data flows.
  • Knowledge of tradeoffs between server-side rendering, static generation, and client-side fetching, with pragmatic use of tools like Next.js.
  • Independent product builder with a strong eye for design, capable of visual unblocking while adhering to the design system and brand language.
  • Experience using frontier agentic AI tools (e.g., Codex 5.3, Claude Opus 4.6) and ability to describe how they have structurally changed coding workflows, with technical skepticism to audit and own output.
  • Low ego, high standards, and excellent communication skills.
  • Thrive in cross-functional environments shaped by healthcare regulations, compliance, and patient safety.
  • Excited to work in-person 5 days a week in the San Francisco office.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated track record of setting technical direction across teams, navigating deep ambiguity, and measurably leveling up engineers (for Staff leveling).
  • Experience with TypeScript, React, Next.js, Tailwind CSS, and modern state management/data fetching tools (e.g., React Query, Zustand).

Responsibilities

  • Build High-Density Healthcare Interfaces: Build complex tools for the clinical team, architect dynamic medical intake engines, high-density provider charting dashboards, and patient-facing applications handling sensitive PHI with perfect state synchronization.
  • Master Client-Side Architecture: Design robust, scalable frontend architectures to manage complex state, handle asynchronous data fetching, and ensure interfaces feel instantaneous.
  • Collaborate Across the Client Ecosystem: Work closely with mobile engineers to establish shared state patterns, reusable business logic, and a unified architectural standard across web and mobile platforms (React Native, Expo).
  • Champion the User Experience: Deeply care about patient and provider experience, make pragmatic design decisions, and improve patient outcomes through UI details and adherence to the design system.
  • Own Frontend Reliability: Be responsible for frontend deployment pipelines, establish performance budgets, and manage client-side observability and error tracking.
  • Build Agentic Workflows: Utilize and integrate AI capabilities into product interfaces to automate clinical operations and scale provider workflows.
