Senior Forward Deployed AI Engineer (GenAI, AWS)

ProvectusWashington, DC
$120,000 - $180,000Remote

About The Position

Provectus is a Premier AWS partner and an Anthropic Strategic Partner focused on applied AI, helping enterprises leverage AI technologies like Claude and agentic systems to achieve measurable business outcomes. We operate globally with offices in North America, LATAM, and EMEA, and specialize in Financial Services & Insurance and Healthcare & Life Sciences. Our approach involves deploying industry-specific AI Blueprints (Submission Flow, Portfolio Lens, Asset Flow, Revenue Flow, and Evidence Lens) that rebuild critical business processes. We embed engineers and leaders as Forward Deployed Engineers (FDE) and Forward Deployed Executives (FDX) directly within client operations. These individuals learn the intricacies of the work, deploy systems, and take ownership of the outcomes. Our team possesses extensive AWS certifications and is certified in Claude Code, co-delivering Anthropic's Agentic SDLC program, Cowork Activation, and AI Blueprints. The Forward Deployed AI Engineer role emphasizes a unique methodology: 'You will do the customer’s job before you automate it.' This means spending initial weeks in the operator's role (e.g., underwriter, analyst, claims clinician) to understand constraints from the inside before collaborating with an operator and a Forward Deployed Executive to rebuild the function from first principles. Key principles of this role include being embedded within the customer's team, focusing on real operational problems rather than siloed deliverables, and operating autonomously with ownership of the method. Engagements begin with existing industry blueprints, which are continuously improved based on field learnings. Success is measured by the impact on the Business Unit's key metrics, not by hours or scope delivered. This role is ideal for experienced engineers who have previously led technical initiatives and wish to remain hands-on while owning outcomes, often being the most senior technical person in the room and responsible for shipping solutions.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software development experience, with a significant portion in writing production code for which you were accountable.
  • Currently hands-on with coding and intend to remain so.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn domains quickly.
  • Shipped GenAI/LLM systems to production (not just demos or notebooks).
  • Experience building or owning an eval suite for a non-deterministic system.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals, with the ability to become productive in unfamiliar codebases or languages.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript; depth is more important than breadth of stack.
  • Cloud-native delivery experience on AWS (GCP/Azure is a plus), including containers, Kubernetes/ECS, IaC, CI/CD, and operational considerations.
  • Credibility with senior stakeholders.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ownership.
  • Solid AI/ML foundations.
  • Strong hands-on production experience with Claude Code/Cowork.
  • Fluent English, written and spoken.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as a founder, CTO, or engineering leader who has chosen to return to individual contribution.
  • Deep expertise in financial services, insurance, healthcare, or asset management.
  • Experience in consulting, professional services, or other embedded customer-facing delivery roles.
  • Data platform expertise: data lakes, warehouses, streaming/real-time analytics, data mesh, data contracts, governance, and data quality.
  • Experience with MLOps and classical ML tools like PyTorch, SageMaker, MLflow.
  • Experience with fine-tuning, distillation, or inference/serving optimization.
  • Experience with graph databases (Neo4j, AWS Neptune).
  • Deep IaC experience with AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform.
  • Open-source contributions or public writing on applied AI.

Responsibilities

  • Take the operator's seat: Spend weeks doing the job of the end-user (e.g., claims processing, underwriting, revenue-cycle work) before writing any code.
  • Learn business domains quickly to become conversant in unfamiliar functions.
  • Ship GenAI/LLM systems to production, handling complexities beyond the prototype stage.
  • Build and own evaluation suites for non-deterministic systems.
  • Deliver cloud-native solutions on AWS, including containers, Kubernetes/ECS, IaC, and CI/CD.
  • Engage credibly with senior stakeholders, including BU heads and CTOs, for redesign and scoping conversations.
  • Manage ambiguity and take ownership of engagements that are intentionally underspecified.
  • Apply solid AI/ML foundations to reason about model failure modes.
  • Gain hands-on production experience with Claude Code/Cowork.
  • Communicate effectively in fluent English, both written and spoken.

Benefits

  • Frontier delivery work across Cowork Activation, Agentic SDLC, and Blueprint Activations in Financial Services and Healthcare
  • Opportunity to shape how leading enterprises adopt AI, from strategy through first deployment
  • Forward-deployed model working in small, senior teams alongside Principal Architects and Forward Deployed Engineers
  • A growing AI delivery practice where you help build the tooling and frameworks, not just use them
  • Remote-friendly culture
