Senior Forensic Analyst - Forensic Unit
About The Position
The Center for Human Identification (CHI) at UNT Health is an accredited forensic lab designated as a criminal justice agency by the state of Texas. Globally recognized for its expertise, CHI offers forensic DNA testing, forensic genetic genealogy (FGG), CODIS operations, anthropological analysis, investigative support, cutting-edge research initiatives, and forensic training and education. CHI was the first public lab in the nation accredited to perform forensic genetic genealogy (FGG) and manages the Texas Missing Persons DNA Database. This position will conduct forensic DNA analysis on evidence submitted to CHI to establish the identity and/or source of biological materials and provide legal testimony as to the methods and results obtained in forensic casework. May also assist in interview process for job applicants, assigning casework to other analysts/technologists, and/or other additional duties assigned by the Technical Leader.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Expert understanding of forensic science, including DNA analysis, to perform accurate casework and evidence analysis.
- Familiarity with industry-standard quality guidelines to ensure accurate, reliable forensic results.
- Skilled in analyzing and interpreting forensic evidence, drawing conclusions that are scientifically valid and legally defensible.
- Capable of providing guidance and training to junior analysts, ensuring adherence to lab procedures and continuous skill development.
- Proficiency in using advanced forensic tools and technologies to analyze evidence.
- Ability to maintain meticulous attention to detail during forensic analyses, ensuring accurate documentation and result reliability.
- Experience providing expert testimony in court, presenting complex forensic data in an understandable manner for legal professionals.
- Texas Forensic Science Commission Forensic Analyst License
Nice To Haves
- Graduate degree in biology, chemistry, or related science.
- Four (4) years of laboratory experience as a forensic DNA analyst or a BA/BS degree in biology, chemistry or a forensic science related field/
- Six (6) years of experience as a forensic DNA analyst.
- Must have completed coursework in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, and statistics from an accredited university or program approved by the Texas Forensic Science Commission.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and interpret serological and DNA results following all Quality Assurance and Procedure Manual guidelines.
- Generate reports of results obtained.
- Complete technical and administrative review of cases.
- Maintain proficiency by completing two proficiency tests per year.
- Provide court testimony as required.
- Assist with training of new Forensic Analysts and Technologists. May serve as the Training Program Coordinator.
- Oversee work and provide guidance to Forensic Analysts and Technologists.
- Participate in validation projects as needed.
- Assist the Technical Leader in various responsibilities and projects as needed.
- Complete required hours of continuing education and review current scientific literature.
