About The Position

The Center for Human Identification (CHI) at UNT Health is an accredited forensic lab designated as a criminal justice agency by the state of Texas. Globally recognized for its expertise, CHI offers forensic DNA testing, forensic genetic genealogy (FGG), CODIS operations, anthropological analysis, investigative support, cutting-edge research initiatives, and forensic training and education. CHI was the first public lab in the nation accredited to perform forensic genetic genealogy (FGG) and manages the Texas Missing Persons DNA Database. Perform lab duties to include extraction, quantification, amplification and processing/loading of DNA samples onto analytical instruments. Also assists in performing maintenance, calibrations, and stocking of laboratories. May testify as an expert witness.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and three (3) years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of forensic science principles, evidence collection, and preservation techniques related to criminal investigations.
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment, testing methods, and analytical procedures for various types of evidence, including biological samples.
  • Strong attention to detail in documenting, testing, and analyzing physical evidence.
  • Ability to collect and store evidence in a manner that preserves its integrity for investigations and legal proceedings.
  • Capability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy in forensic work.
  • Strong communication skills to prepare detailed reports and present findings clearly to law enforcement and in court.
  • Texas Forensic Science Commission Forensic Biology Technician License

Responsibilities

  • Casework examination following all Quality Assurance Manual and Procedure Manual guidelines.
  • Maintain proficiency by completing two external proficiency tests per year as required by the National Standards.
  • Perform extractions, quantitation, amplifications, and load samples on the genetic analyzers for processing of casework samples.
  • Assist in performing equipment maintenance, performance checks, and calibrations.
  • Perform equipment checks and stock laboratories as needed.
  • Provide court testimony as required.
