About The Position

As a Senior Fire Protection Specialist, you will provide expert fire protection engineering leadership to support the design, evaluation, and implementation of systems and strategies that safeguard life and property. This role involves applying advanced fire science, performance‑based design principles, and code expertise to complex buildings, industrial facilities, and specialty environments. Responsibilities include technical design, client consultation, regulatory engagement, and oversight from concept development through commissioning and operations. The position reports to the Director, Fire Protection, is located in Kitchener, Ontario, and is offered as a hybrid role, requiring employees to work onsite 2 days per week.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 to 10 + years of related professional experience, including at least 5 years providing fire protection engineering or consulting services
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering (Fire Protection, Mechanical, or related discipline) OR a college diploma or degree in Fire Protection Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, or Building Design Technology
  • Licensed by PEO, OAA, or an equivalent professional regulatory body
  • Demonstrated expertise in performance‑based fire safety design, fire modeling, life safety analysis, and interpretation of fire and building codes and standards

Responsibilities

  • Lead performance‑based fire protection design analyses, including fire modeling, egress calculations, code compliance evaluations, and consultation with Authorities Having Jurisdiction
  • Develop detailed fire protection system designs, including passive and active systems, equipment specifications, calculations, system narratives, and construction documentation
  • Review shop drawings, conduct construction oversight, inspections, field surveys, and acceptance testing for life safety systems
  • Evaluate existing facilities through fire hazard, life safety, and code compliance assessments and develop remediation strategies
  • Provide technical guidance, reporting, training, and emergency on‑call engineering support for fire protection and life safety systems
