Senior Fire Protection Engineer

Bristol Alliance of Companies•Towson, MD

About The Position

The Senior Fire Protection Engineer prepares detailed Building Code and Life Safety Code analyses and evaluates fire detection, mass notification, and suppression systems. The role develops designs and plans using AutoCAD, along with requests for proposals, specifications, and cost estimates, supporting in-house and Architect/Engineer design-bid-build and design-build projects for new and rehabilitated Department of War facilities and infrastructure. The engineer analyzes existing buildings and egress systems to assess egress adequacy and construction type under existing conditions and proposed changes to buildings or occupancies, investigates facility deficiencies, and recommends corrective measures. Projects may include naval shore facilities such as offices, quarters, hangars, hospitals, towers, aircraft overhaul facilities, piers, and training facilities, as well as many other structures. The role evaluates and implements innovative fire protection processes, systems, equipment, and construction techniques; prepares correspondence, engineering studies, and technical reports; and applies knowledge of fire detection and suppression system components, their installation, and their testing and maintenance. The engineer provides independent technical support and consultation for Navy, Marine Corps, and other supported commands throughout facility planning, design, construction, and maintenance, coordinating with stakeholders and other engineering and architectural disciplines. Typical technical work covers life safety, construction type, height and area requirements, separation distances, fire-rated construction, fireproofing, firestopping, sprinkler and fire alarm systems, mass notification, clean-agent suppression, fire alarm reporting, water distribution, hydraulic analysis, fire modeling, and performance-based design for government facilities. The work may involve both indoor and outdoor conditions, environmental and physical hazards, close visual work, and the physical demands listed in the posting.
