About The Position

GHD's US East Region is looking for a Senior Fire Protection Engineer to join our Property & Building team. In this role, you will develop and lead full-service fire protection engineering and life safety consulting projects for both our private and public sector clients including commercial, institutional and federal facilities. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or equivalent ABET accredited degree
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Between 10-20 years of experience in the evaluation / design of fire protection systems and building / fire code consultation
  • Strong working knowledge with NFPA and ICC codes and standards and FM Global datasheets
  • Experience in developing contract documents for a wide variety of fire alarm and suppression systems, including specialized applications, such as industrial fire protection and process hazard analysis, aircraft hangars, high-piled storage warehouses, facilities with flammable and combustible liquids, mission critical facilities, and foam suppression
  • Proven experience at all stages of the project life cycle, from preparing bids to feasibility studies, consenting, detailed design and data analysis, and client management

Nice To Haves

  • An interest in coaching and mentoring our graduate and EIT engineers to technically strengthen the team capabilities
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% to project sites and client meetings, as required
  • Federal Government DoD and civilian agencies’ project and client experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Lead and collaborate on fire protection systems design and life safety/code consulting projects, including partnering with our Revit design team for fire protection systems.
  • Provide life safety analysis including reports and plans identifying applicable codes and standards, construction type, allowable height and area, occupancy classification, fire resistance rated assemblies, exits, exit capacity and travel distance.
  • Develop technical documentation for all types of fire protection systems, including design narratives, technical memorandums, design drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Manage fire protection engineering projects and working effectively and proactively within multi-discipline project teams across groups.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers and other clients on building/fire code & standards consulting
  • Identify various hazards, mitigation techniques and recommended solutions, materials, and equipment on Fire Protection/Life Safety consulting.
  • Identify and support business development, client expansion and proposal development activities for our Fire Protection Engineering & Life Safety business, including the preparation of proposals for IDIQ TOs and opportunities.
  • Support client relationship development and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Support mid-level and entry-level Fire Protection Engineers within the Design & Delivery Organization through mentorship and contributions to research and development activities.
  • Perform peer reviews and QAQC reviews of fire protection design documents to verify technical and code compliant designs and consistent and clean drafting.
  • Participate in construction administration services including reviewing and responding to RFIs and Submittals, performing final punch-list walks, and witness acceptance testing.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) where needed.
