About The Position

The Senior Financial Services Officer (Expenditure) is primarily responsible for the expenditure related finance functions of the City, ensuring the City’s financial service systems are efficient, effective and dynamic and comply with all relevant accounting standards and other statutory and financial requirements. In addition, you will assist in the preparation of the City’s Annual Budget and coordinate the budget review process. You will have a high level of knowledge of contemporary accounting principles and practices and have developed experience in a financial administration position with a commercial or local government authority with exposure to functions relevant to this position. In addition to your highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, you pride yourself on your teamwork, professionalism and attention to detail.

Requirements

  • An Undergraduate Degree level qualification in Accounting or Finance is essential.
  • A high-level knowledge of contemporary accounting principles and practices.
  • Supervisory experience in a financial administration position is essential.
  • Exposure to complex areas such as fixed asset management, accounts payable, stock control, benchmarking system reviews and taxation compliance.
  • A high level of numeracy and computer literacy with developed Microsoft Excel skills is essential.
  • A high level of interpersonal, organisational and communication skills is essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Membership or progressing towards membership of Certified Practising Accountants (CPA)/Chartered Accountants (CA) is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the expenditure related finance functions of the City.
  • Ensure financial service systems are efficient, effective, and dynamic.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards and statutory/financial requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation of the City’s Annual Budget.
  • Coordinate the budget review process.
