About The Position

Under the direction of the assigned manager, this role oversees and coordinates the District's Financial Aid Outreach Initiative. This includes managing financial aid opportunities and outreach services within the community, serving as a financial aid representative to community service agencies, and acting as a lead to monitor financial aid outreach activities. This is an advanced journey-level position focused on outreach, informing the community about financial aid programs, and providing training and work direction to staff.

  • Knowledge of proper language usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of marketing and promotion.
  • Knowledge of office procedures and equipment including computers.
  • Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Ability to coordinate the Financial Aid Outreach Program, including materials development, facility assignment, and presenter selection.
  • Ability to create effective community financial aid outreach and educational tools.
  • Ability to prepare appropriate materials and handouts for low-income, disadvantaged populations, including those where English is a second language.
  • Ability to monitor financial aid outreach program services and activities and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Ability to develop a variety of financial aid marketing and promotional material.
  • Ability to serve as representative for Financial Aid on the Outreach Advisory Council.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Ability to interact successfully and cooperatively with students and families of diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to make oral presentations to a wide variety of audiences.

  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, linguistic, and ethnic backgrounds and disabilities of community college students and staff as demonstrated by skills and abilities in cultural responses and cultural humility.
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Five years’ experience coordinating educational programs in financial aid or outreach functions.
  • A valid Class "C" California Driver's License is required by the time of appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the financial aid outreach program, including scheduling seminars and workshops, assigning dates, facilities, and presenters, and assisting students.
  • Develop and execute a plan to increase financial aid awareness and participation in post-secondary education, particularly among low-income and disadvantaged students.
  • Act as a financial aid liaison for the District with off-campus centers, providing outreach to those communities.
  • Recruit students to apply for financial aid and disseminate program information to high schools, migrant groups, local agencies, and the public.
  • Conduct presentations on financial aid program services and opportunities.
  • Participate in the development of financial aid consumer information and coordinate with graphic arts staff, facility management, and community members for presentations and workshops.
  • Develop and implement a financial aid marketing plan for the Financial Aid Outreach Initiative, coordinating publicity materials and creating brochures and a multi-media campaign.
  • Develop databases targeting specific low-income, disadvantaged populations.
  • Advise and counsel students on all aspects of student financial aid, including satisfactory academic progress, Veterans benefits, eligibility, appeals, and regulations.
  • Monitor and review the services and activities of the Financial Aid Outreach Program, incorporating changes in legislation, technology, educational trends, and community needs.
  • Prepare materials for workshops, including applications, handouts, and presentation materials.
  • Coordinate, order, and secure special services and equipment for classes and presenters, such as audio-visual equipment.
  • Serve as a representative for Financial Aid on the Outreach Advisory Committee, attending meetings and providing input.
  • Prepare monthly activities summaries for the Outreach Advisory Committee.
  • Coordinate and work closely with the Enrollment Management Committee to target low-income disadvantaged students.
  • Collaborate with Outreach and Enrollment Services to develop strategies and marketing measures for tracking disadvantaged populations.
  • Maintain a variety of files, records, and databases, and prepare reports and correspondence.
  • Assist financial aid applicants in completing forms and applications, and provide information on admissions, financial aid, and registration policies.
  • Conduct financial aid presentations, workshops, and loan orientations.
  • Work cooperatively with auxiliary programs such as EOPS, CARE, DSPS, Puente, MESA, and CalWORKs.
  • Provide support for financial aid program processes, including admissions, orientation, marketing, and student tracking.
  • Perform data entry and routine clerical functions, schedule appointments, and maintain informational materials.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Director of Financial Aid or designee.
  • May oversee student workers.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
