About The Position

This role serves as a senior financial decision-maker, reporting directly to the LOB CFO or Staff Function EVP. The primary responsibility is to analyze the financial performance and growth opportunities for a national line of business. The position assists the LOB CFO in developing action plans to sustain profitable growth and provides support to profit center managers in building business strategies to grow revenues, identify cost efficiencies, and increase profitability. This role also coordinates with Bancorp Finance and other Lines of Business to ensure consistency in reaching Bancorp financial goals. The Senior Finance Manager is responsible and accountable for risk management through open communication, elevating concerns, and adhering to policies and procedures. They are accountable for ensuring actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience and for identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types within the Bank’s risk appetite.

Requirements

  • College degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics.
  • Typically requires over 10 years of accounting or finance related experience.
  • Strong financial planning experience required.
  • Previous experience in multiple Fifth Third LOBs, ALCO, Corporate finance or related experience required.
  • Proficient in basic spreadsheet applications such as Excel, Microsoft Word, etc.
  • Demonstrate ability to learn and understand various computer systems.
  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal and written) up to higher levels, down to lower levels, and to peers.
  • Demonstrates the Fifth Third Leadership Competencies and Practices of Exemplary Leaders.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Displays highest level of integrity at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA, MBA preferred.
  • Banking or Financial Services preferred.
  • Five+ years supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes, fosters and maintains working relationships with peers and management within own Line of Business or staff function, as well as to Bancorp Finance.
  • Serves as the financial leader to Line of Business or staff function.
  • Attends meetings with peers to maintain knowledge of current and emerging issues and risks in respective focus areas.
  • Leads process improvement and problem resolution issues.
  • Analyzes annual profit plan and rolling forecast for the line of business.
  • Analyzes business performance, make recommendations for improvements and measure progress.
  • Works closely with CFOs to develop metrics and variance analysis of actual results.
  • Assists with the development of presentations and discussion documents to highlight business issues and opportunities.
  • Creates and publish graphic metrics to communicate business results and status.
  • Generates forecasts and analyzes sales trends.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures.
  • Anticipates and provides solutions to the most complex finance and accounting problems.
  • Allocates and coordinates resources and handles personnel-related issues within the LOB.
  • Manages the planning and direction of departmental projects.
  • Oversees the efficient operation and cost-effectiveness of operating systems and programs.
  • Monitors and evaluates project progress and results to determine improvements in procedures needed to meet ultimate objectives.
  • Manages a large team of finance professionals.
  • Provides training and guidance to less experienced analysts.
  • Allocates work and reviews work of less experienced staff.
  • Works with staff to set and achieve department objectives.
  • Guides and advises subordinates.
  • Resolves routine personnel issues.
  • Develops cross training programs and ensures the adequate delegation of duties and responsibilities.
  • Recruits, develops and exports talent.
  • May be responsible for modeling and/or forecasting incentive compensation expenditures.
  • Prepares and makes presentations for the LOB EVP, Bancorp CFO, Operating Committee, and Enterprise Committee.
  • Stimulate behaviors across the Enterprise to achieve strategic and financial objectives.
  • Questions initiatives that threaten stated goals or the Bancorp's ability to meet every legal, regulatory, or ethical requirement of an elite public company.
