The Senior Finance Manager, IM Portfolio Strategy helps support the Innovative Medicine long-range financial plan (LRFP), including estimating the future cost to execute the pipeline and coordinating valuation of the portfolio. The role leads long-term capital allocation analytics and decision support across a 10–15-year horizon to illuminate key value drivers, Capital and OPEX requirements, and strategic trade-offs. This position partners closely with cross-functional IM Senior Leaders and is expected to provide strong thought leadership, clear problem framing, and executive-ready insights.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required (Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field preferred).
  • A Minimum of 7 years of progressive finance/accounting experience, including FP&A, strategic finance, portfolio analytics, or decision support is required.
  • Demonstrated experience leading sophisticated planning and performance management processes (e.g., LRFP, multi-year outlooks, target setting) with multiple senior stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills, including scenario/sensitivity analysis and the ability to translate assumptions into executive-level insights.
  • Proven ability to influence and partner cross-functionally (e.g., R&D, Commercial/Strategy, Investor Relations, Group Finance, External Innovation, and Digital/Technology teams).
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information, frame decisions, and deliver executive-ready storylines and materials.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; strong data visualization and presentation craftsmanship.
  • People leadership experience with a track record of coaching, developing talent, and driving outcomes through others.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, ambiguous environment and manage multiple priorities with strong attention to detail and deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA and/or CPA, CMA, or other relevant advanced certification.
  • Experience in biopharma/healthcare R&D finance, pipeline valuation, capital allocation, or portfolio management; familiarity with decision analysis concepts and probability/risk-based valuation approaches.
  • Experience driving digital/analytics enablement (e.g., automation, dashboards, governance) to improve transparency, timeliness, and adoption of portfolio insights.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the IM long-range financial plan (LRFP), 10-15 Year Outlook, and Capital Allocation framework, partnering with Therapeutic Area, Discovery and Functional teams to deliver clear articulation of investment requirements, risk profile, and impact on value and growth for Innovative Medicine.
  • Lead the pipeline valuations process, including driving consistent application of valuation techniques and guidelines across Therapeutic Areas and driving adoption of new and advanced decision analysis methodologies and visualizations to improve opportunity analysis and decision-making.
  • Support the annual target setting process, working closely with the FP&A team and CFO; during subsequent Business Plan and Current Year Forecast Updates, generate portfolio insights and implications for Senior Leadership.
  • Provide decision support to the Investment Committee on the initiation of late-stage trials, focusing on investment requirements and projected return in support of delivering optimal investment allocation to meet the sector’s objectives.
  • Play a prominent role across IM Finance as a “Go-To” leader.
  • Act as a thought partner with Senior Leadership across R&D, GCSO, Investor Relations, Group Finance, and External Innovation to deliver internal and external reporting requirements related to the pipeline and IM's long-term outlook.
  • Influence and partner cross-functionally to deliver digital technology advancements to improve transparency, timeliness, and comprehension of Innovative Medicine pipeline data for optimal decision making.
  • Lead and participate in ad hoc strategic projects and special requests.
