The Field Service Technician will be responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, servicing, and repairing pumping and support equipment in a safe and efficient manner, both on-site and at customer sites in the surrounding Norfolk areas. We are seeking a mechanically strong field technician with proven hands-on troubleshooting experience on engines and industrial equipment. The ideal candidate can perform basic diesel engine diagnostics (distinguishing fuel, oil, and cooling issues) and is comfortable working independently in the field, tracing problems from symptom to root cause. Direct pump experience is not required; we will train on pump systems and electrical specifics. Preferred backgrounds include Navy technical rates (EN, AD, AS, MM, HT), HVAC technicians, and automotive or diesel mechanics who want to transition into pump and field service work. The candidate must demonstrate a strong work ethic, high-quality work, and readiness to work in environments that may include sewer bypass applications.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years of diesel experience and/or training, or a combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Ability to obtain a DOT Medical card
  • Diagnosing basic mechanical problems
  • Thorough understanding of the methods, materials, tools, and techniques used in equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Basic understanding of pump station electrical controls and monitoring devices
  • General DC electric and circuit testing skills
  • General diesel engine component location and identification
  • Safety practices and procedures
  • Basic mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision; self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, co-workers, and managers both verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial Driver License B - Preferred but not required
  • Ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues--preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance and servicing as directed on Godwin fleet equipment between each rental.
  • Troubleshoot diesel engine, electrical systems and pump problems.
  • Rebuild diesel engines and pump ends.
  • Assist customers and/or Xylem personnel in setting up pumping systems at customer job sites as needed.
  • Assist in the performance of start-up duties and ensure any problems are resolved.
  • Perform an initial inspection of Godwin fleet equipment for possible damages; diagnose damages; report damages to Service Manager.
  • Test all repaired equipment for proper operation and quality.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on Company vehicles and shop support equipment.
  • Perform diagnostic checks using computer technology.
  • Participate in the on-call schedule to assist customers after hours.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
