About The Position

The Senior Estimator's role is to coordinate estimating efforts of a team of estimators, manage higher complexity of estimating bids and provide guidance and direction in a supervisory capacity. The position will work closely alongside Senior Project Managers to assist in streamline estimating functions as it aligns with the needs of the business. This role involves reviewing and delegating incoming estimating duties, managing complex bids, fostering client relationships, and creating business development opportunities. The Senior Estimator will also provide final review and quality control over bids before submission, interpret plans and specifications, conduct jobsite reviews, perform accurate takeoffs and estimates using HCSS software, calculate quantities, solicit subcontractor quotes, and ensure DBE/MBE requirements are considered. The role includes constructing bids by adding activities, crews, and equipment, adjusting production rates, preparing and submitting bid proposals, determining bid results, and working alongside Project Managers on awarded jobs. Additionally, the Senior Estimator will partner with and mentor junior project staff, function as a leader in estimating efforts, and work towards advancing estimating operations. Preliminary engineering design and review of project elements are also part of the responsibilities, along with other duties assigned by Management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Construction Management or Civil Engineering from a four-year college or university; or minimum of 10 years’ experience bidding and estimating projects; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Construction Bidding and Project Management software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to work with all levels of management, employees, external vendors, and other business associates.
  • Must clearly communicate directions and information.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, clients, and/or regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to define problems, collect and document data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of situations and events and respond accordingly.
  • Ability to seek counsel when needed and use a variety of resources.
  • Ability to maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.

Responsibilities

  • Review and delegate incoming estimating duties to team members.
  • Manage more complex bids.
  • Manage client relationships and create business development opportunities.
  • Provide final review and quality control over bids completed by the team.
  • Review plans and specifications to determine the scope of work.
  • Review jobsites before bidding to make appropriate estimates.
  • Complete accurate takeoffs and estimates utilizing HCSS software.
  • Calculate quantities for each project to factor materials needed and material movement.
  • Solicit quotes from subcontractors for bid preparation and final numbers.
  • Keep DBE/MBE requirements in mind with subcontractor invitations to bid.
  • Collect quotes on materials required for the project.
  • Construct the bid by adding activities, crews, and equipment, adjusting production rates.
  • Print out bid proposals to create proposals.
  • Send/deliver bids to the owner or general contractor within the required timeframe.
  • Determine results of bids by contacting General Contractors or communication from the bid runner.
  • Work alongside the Project Manager, managing the project, after the job is awarded.
  • Partner with and mentor junior project staff and assist them in understanding and executing estimating.
  • Function as a leader in estimating efforts for projects.
  • Work towards advancing and improving estimating operations.
  • Perform preliminary engineering design and review of project elements for deep foundation, retention, and other project elements to assist in the estimation effort.
  • Perform other duties or tasks as assigned by Management.
