About The Position

The Senior Estimator is responsible for leading the estimating process for heavy civil construction projects including earthwork, site development, water, sewer, and storm drainage systems. This role will manage the full bid lifecycle—from prequalification and takeoffs through proposal development and turnover to operations. The ideal candidate has strong experience pricing large-scale civil infrastructure projects and understands production rates, sequencing, risk evaluation, and subcontractor/vendor buyout strategies.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of heavy civil estimating experience (required).
  • Proven experience estimating: Mass earthwork and grading, Site development, Underground utilities (water, sewer, storm drain)
  • Strong knowledge of construction means and methods.
  • Ability to build a project estimate from conceptual stage through final bid.
  • Proficiency in estimating software such as: HeavyBid (preferred), PlanSwift (preferred), AGTEK (preferred), Primavera P6 (preferred), AutoCAD (preferred)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team leadership skills, including mentoring, workflow coordination, and oversight of estimating staff to achieve departmental goals.
  • Must have valid driver's license
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must participate in pre-employment and random drug screening program.
  • Subject to a background screening process
  • Ability to attend job site visits as needed.
  • Must complete a Culture Index personality survey.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
  • Field experience in heavy civil construction is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Train, develop, and mentor a compact team of estimators, guiding team members through the estimating process from takeoffs to final proposal submission.
  • Lead and prepare detailed cost estimates for heavy civil projects (earthwork, mass grading, underground wet utilities, site development).
  • Perform quantity take-offs using plans and specifications.
  • Develop complete bid packages from start to finish.
  • Build work plans and construction sequencing strategies for pricing accuracy.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotes.
  • Maintain vendor and subcontractor databases.
  • Complete prequalification packages for vendors and subcontractors.
  • Attend site visits, pre-bid meetings, and client walkthroughs.
  • Prepare estimate summaries, bid tabs, and proposal documents.
  • Assist in schedule development and coordination with operations.
  • Support project turnover to project management team after award.
