About The Position

This position is responsible for developing accurate and timely proposals and estimates for both private and public sector works projects of more than $100 million to ensure Granite is a responsive bidder. The role involves comprehending and administering a safety program, promoting environmental policies, fostering a quality culture, analyzing estimate data, reviewing project specifications and site conditions, analyzing alternative solutions and construction methods, reviewing take-off quantities, applying mathematical calculations, presenting estimates, communicating with owners and subcontractors, developing business relationships, supervising and mentoring estimating staff, and participating in or leading design-build preconstruction services and means and method discussions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or equivalent related work experience.
  • 15+ years estimating experience.
  • 5+ years management experience.
  • Proficiency with all MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Proficiency with AGTEK Take-off and Primavera Scheduling software.
  • Advanced knowledge of Estimating software.
  • Advanced knowledge of civil engineering principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction principles and equipment capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of agency (U)DBE requirements.
  • Comply, understand, and support corporate safety initiatives.
  • Team player.
  • Ability and willingness to abide by Granite’s Code of Conduct.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive.
  • Ability to travel to other regions in the country for IP/JV bidding opportunities which require air travel and overnight stays.

Responsibilities

  • Develop accurate and timely proposals and estimates for projects over $100 million.
  • Administer a safety program to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Promote environmental policies and mitigate potential adverse effects.
  • Foster a quality culture in operations.
  • Analyze and compile estimate data including labor, materials, equipment, and location.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and proposed project site conditions.
  • Analyze alternative solutions and construction methods to increase bid competitiveness.
  • Review take-off quantities for accuracy.
  • Utilize existing cost history as a check for estimates.
  • Apply mathematical calculations for accurate cost estimation.
  • Present estimates and participate in bid reviews with senior management.
  • Communicate with owners, subcontractors, and public/private entities to ensure competitiveness.
  • Communicate estimate bid information to field operations at pre-construction meetings.
  • Develop and maintain business relationships to increase bid opportunities.
  • Supervise, direct, and mentor estimating staff.
  • Participate in and/or lead design-build preconstruction services.
  • Participate in and/or lead means and method discussions to drive creative thinking and innovative ideas.
