About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Estimator to join the team in NY office (with local travel across Dutchess, Rockland, Westchester, Orange and Ulster Counties). In this hybrid estimating + delivery role you’ll lead bid preparation and then own project execution from start-up through close-out—an excellent opportunity to shape large public-works jobs in a collaborative, values-driven environment.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in heavy highway, site development or infrastructure construction (public works).
  • Demonstrated track record managing projects up to ~$20M in value.
  • Strong estimating experience (proficiency in HCSS HeavyBid) and scheduling experience with Primavera.
  • Direct experience working with NYSDOT, OGS, DEP, municipal infrastructure (e.g., TANY, MNRR) and bidding/public works protocols.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, lead field and office teams, and cultivate client relationships.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills; ability to interface with field, office, subcontractors, owners and agencies.
  • Computer literate (MS Office Suite).
  • Must be located in (or willing to commute from) Dutchess, Rockland, Westchester, Orange or Ulster County; commuting from NYC metro is not viable.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline.
  • Previous experience with municipal and DOT bidding and contract administration in the Hudson Valley region.
  • Familiarity with union/non-union operations in heavy civil work.
  • Prior heavy civil field leadership experience (not purely office-based).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the estimating process for heavy civil infrastructure projects (road reconstruction, culverts/bridges, drainage, utilities) including interpreting bid documents and performing detailed quantity take-offs.
  • Prepare cost estimates and bid packages for public sector (NYSDOT, DEP, OGS, TANY, MNRR) and municipal work.
  • Manage subcontractor buy-out, purchase orders, value engineering review, and cost-saving alternatives.
  • Establish project start-up documentation, electronic file systems, schedules (Primavera), permits, submittals, HASP and EEO participation compliance.
  • Oversee full project execution: coordinate with superintendents/engineers, monitor cost-codes and budgets, manage RFIs, submittals, change orders and owner/agency correspondence.
  • Ensure quality, safety, and compliance on-site; maintain client relationships; procure long-lead materials; and track subcontractor performance.
  • Lead close-out: handle final owner payments, subcontractor/supplier payables, and punchlists, turnover and financial wrap-up.
