About The Position

Country View Family Farms is seeking a Senior Environmental Specialist to lead environmental stewardship, sustainability, and operational excellence. This role will manage environmental compliance, permitting, nutrient management, and sustainability initiatives for swine farms, feed mills, and support facilities in Indiana. The position involves enhancing compliance programs, collaborating with operational leaders and regulatory agencies, and driving environmental stewardship and continuous improvement. The goal is to deliver environmental, operational, and financial value, acting as an internal expert to reduce reliance on external consultants. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Resource Management, Agronomy, Soil Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A valid driver’s license and meet company driving eligibility requirements.
  • Working knowledge of NPDES CAFO permits and other agricultural environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Minimum of five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collect and interpret data, identify issues, and develop practical solutions.
  • Availability to work Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend and holiday work as needed.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
  • Must frequently move throughout barns, farms, and production areas.
  • Must communicate effectively with management and team members regarding task completion and operational needs.
  • Work environment may include exposure to loud noises, dusty conditions, outdoor weather, hot and cold temperatures, animal dander, manure, and other agricultural conditions.
  • Regular travel to farm sites and facilities is required.
  • Occasional overnight travel may also be required based on operational needs.
  • Company vehicle provided.
  • Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and meet company driving eligibility requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in preparing nutrient management plans and odor management plans is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute environmental compliance activities across Indiana operations.
  • Ensure accurate, complete, and timely environmental reporting, recordkeeping, and inspections.
  • Support and lead regulatory inspections and permitting activities, including new sites, expansions, and CAFO/NPDES requirements.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve manure value, environmental performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and execute manure management strategies that support operational and financial goals.
  • Optimize manure hauling, application, and partner relationships to improve efficiency and utilization.
  • Develop and manage manure budgets, nutrient sampling programs, and nutrient alignment activities.
  • Maintain nutrient management plans, odor management plans, and wastewater compliance programs.
  • Prioritize and execute environmental projects based on compliance risk, operational needs, and financial impact.
  • Develop and maintain tracking tools and systems to monitor compliance activities, cost savings, and operational performance.
  • Promote consistent environmental practices across farms, feed mills, and support facilities.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with regulatory agencies and industry groups while staying informed of regulatory changes.
  • Support water usage, conservation efforts, and sustainability initiatives across operations.
  • Maintain a strong field presence across all regions, including regular travel to farm sites and facilities, with occasional overnight travel as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
