About The Position

The Senior Environmental Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for implementing Guardant Health policies to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. This role supports Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) operations at Guardant Health's Corporate Headquarters and ancillary sites, helping ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The specialist will serve as a trusted resource on environmental, health, and safety matters, providing guidance and recommendations to cross-functional teams. They will also maintain and enhance EHS policies, procedures, and programs to promote a safe and compliant work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field required.
  • 15-20+ years of Environmental Health & Safety experience, preferably in biotechnology, life sciences, healthcare, laboratory, or other regulated environments.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, Cal/OSHA, hazardous waste, and other applicable environmental and occupational safety regulations.
  • Experience supporting compliance audits, inspections, incident investigations, and regulatory reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize multiple responsibilities, and exercise sound judgment in resolving EHS-related issues.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS management systems or similar software.
  • Physically able to conduct facility inspections and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and working on a computer may be required.
  • Demonstrate curiosity, sound judgment, and the ability to critically evaluate and responsibly leverage AI-enabled tools in accordance with company policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of work.

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, CHMM, or other relevant EHS credentials are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) operations at Guardant Health's Corporate Headquarters and ancillary sites, helping ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Serve as a trusted resource on environmental, health, and safety matters, providing guidance and recommendations to cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain and enhance EHS policies, procedures, and programs to promote a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Support internal, external, and regulatory compliance audits and inspections, and assist with the timely resolution of findings.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections and risk assessments to identify safety, health, and environmental hazards, recommending practical corrective actions where appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain inspection schedules and support ongoing compliance monitoring activities.
  • Prepare and deliver employee training on workplace safety, emergency response, hazardous materials, and other EHS-related topics.
  • Monitor compliance with established safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, document findings, assist with root cause analyses, and support implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensure Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are maintained and readily accessible.
  • Maintain records related to hazardous waste management, employee exposure, and environmental compliance in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with Facilities, Laboratory Operations, Engineering, People Operations, and other departments to support EHS initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Remain current on applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations and recommend updates to policies and procedures as needed.
  • Provide guidance and share knowledge with less experienced team members as appropriate.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
