As a Senior Engineering Technician in the Validation Engineering team, you will be supporting testing of Proterra’s existing and upcoming battery products and its components.

Requirements

  • Electric Vehicles, heavy equipment, or automotive repair experience required
  • Electrical troubleshooting
  • On-board diagnostics experience: CAN based vehicle diagnostics and fault codes.
  • Knowledge in the following: Low voltage (5V-24V) and high voltage (800V), electronics, electronic systems integration, heavy wiring and vehicle mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read schematics to diagnosis both low and high voltage systems.
  • Proficient Experience with Multimeters, High-Pot testers, and standard repair tools.
  • Assist in modifying, building and validating harnesses; Assist in wiring and building of functional testing equipment as requested by Engineering.
  • Performs and validates functional test; Checks and verifies quality related to prototype builds and test systems.
  • Able to achieve LOTO certification

  • Associate degree in related field or equivalent relevant experience – Preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and uphold high safety standards for high-voltage battery pack and component testing, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) and PPE protocols.
  • Work closely with other engineering, service, and manufacturing groups where required.
  • Work with the product validation group to ensure battery packs are validated at the product (full pack) level and components (cells, modules, BMS hardware) are validated at the component level to meet system requirements.
  • Directly support test articles (battery packs, modules, and cells) in completion of validation and durability tests, including thermal cycling, vibration, and electrical performance testing
  • Maintain high work quality standards under minimal supervision
  • Perform minor adjustments, repairs or setups to battery test equipment, including cell/pack cyclers, environmental chambers, and data acquisition systems.
  • Support the department’s preventative maintenance program for shop equipment, tools, fixtures, gauge, or machines.
  • Assist with documentation and paperwork as related to any repairs, updates and failed parts tracking.
  • Assist with repairs of or setting up of test assets as needed on-site and at remote 3rd party test locations.
  • Assist with data analysis and preparation of test reports covering validation and durability test results, battery pack and component performance, and failure investigations.
  • Work with validation engineers to determine and document product and component failures.
  • Be an internal voice of the customer to ensure the highest quality product prior to product production launch.
