This role will require up to 25% of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects. As part of the Manufacturing Innovation & Technology (MIT) team within Medtronic’s Operations Innovation organization, the Sr. Engineering Manager, integrated Center of Excellence (iCOE) Polymer Shaping & Molding (PSM), leads an integrated team advancing polymer molding, micro-molding, and additive polymer manufacturing technologies from concept through scalable deployment. This role drives both hands-on technology development and enterprise manufacturing strategy, overseeing feasibility, process development, and transfer into manufacturing and NPI while defining long-term investment and capability roadmaps. In close partnership with R&D, R&T, AME, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain, the Sr. Manager ensures the delivery of compliant, scalable, and high-impact manufacturing solutions, translating innovation into measurable operational value through a team of technical SMEs and strategic leaders. Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or 5+ years of experience with an advanced degree
  • 5+ years of managerial experience
  • For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Deep expertise in polymer molding, micro-molding, and/or additive polymer manufacturing technologies
  • Experience developing and deploying manufacturing technologies from concept through commercialization or NPI
  • Demonstrated ability to build and execute technology roadmaps tied to enterprise strategy and investment planning
  • Experience working across R&D, R&T, AME, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain in a matrixed/global environment
  • Familiarity with medical device regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, ISO) and design control processes
  • Experience with external ecosystem engagement (vendors, academia, industry partnerships) for technology scouting and development
  • Proven ability to translate technical advancements into measurable business value (cost, quality, scalability, speed)
  • Strong communication skills with experience presenting to and influencing senior leadership
  • Track record of developing high-performing technical teams and mentoring engineering talent

Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs and implements all aspects of the company's design and development of new medical device products or software systems.
  • May develop, evaluate, implement and maintain technical quality assurance and control systems or reliability systems and standards pertaining to materials, techniques, or company products.
  • Oversees the investigation and evaluation of existing manufacturing technologies.
  • Guides the conceptualization of new manufacturing methodologies, materials, machines, processes or products.
  • Directs the development of new concepts from initial design to market release.
  • Manages feasibility studies of the design to determine if capable of functioning as intended.
  • Monitors documentation maintenance throughout all phases of manufacturing technology research and development.
  • Organizes the coordination of activities with outside suppliers and consultants to ensure timely delivery.
  • Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
