About The Position

Care.com is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead their Pricing and Growth engineering team. This team, consisting of 10 to 12 full-stack engineers, is responsible for developing systems that determine pricing, packaging, and conversion metrics for families and caregivers. The role is highly visible, requiring direct interaction with senior executives to explain technical trade-offs in business terms and translate experiment results into actionable decisions. The manager will also maintain a close connection to the code and tech stack to guide architecture and review technical work.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • 3+ years leading engineering teams as an Engineering Manager or Team Lead, including experience managing a large team or multiple teams.
  • A track record of delivering growth, pricing, monetization, subscription or checkout work in a consumer-facing product.
  • Experience running experiments and using data to decide what to build next.
  • Strong hands-on technical skills across the full stack, and enough familiarity with our stack to take part in design and code review.
  • Experience with Java or Golang is required.
  • Proven ability to communicate with executives and cross-functional leaders, and to explain technical decisions in terms of business impact.
  • Experience delivering large-scale, consumer-facing systems in a fast-paced environment.
  • A demonstrated ability to recruit, inspire and grow engineering talent.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AWS and microservices architecture is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of billing and payment systems, and of payment security and compliance such as PCI-DSS, is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 10 to 12 full stack engineers responsible for pricing, packaging, promotions and growth experiences across our web and mobile products.

  • Present strategy, progress and results to executives, including tradeoffs, risks and the expected return on engineering investment.
  • Stay hands-on: review code and designs, help debug production issues, and contribute directly when the team needs it.
  • Build and run an experimentation practice that includes A/B testing, feature flags, clear success metrics and guardrails, so the team can ship pricing changes quickly and read the results with confidence.
  • Design and maintain the services that hold pricing rules, plans, discounts and promotions, and make sure they stay accurate, auditable and consistent with billing and payments systems.
  • Partner with Finance and Compliance so pricing changes meet regulatory, tax and financial reporting requirements.
  • Work with architects to break up legacy platform components and move core pricing capabilities to an event-driven architecture.
  • Champion engineering best practices across the domain, including observability, testing, performance, scalability and security.
  • Recruit, mentor and develop engineers, and build a team culture of ownership, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee on-call practices, SLAs and incident management to keep the platform resilient and available.
