About The Position

NerdWallet is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead its Partner Data Ingestion team, which builds and operates systems that convert partner-reported activity into recognized revenue. The team owns ingestion pipelines, pricing configuration, and data-quality controls for affiliate revenue across the company’s verticals. Its data lands in Snowflake and supports Finance, Business Development, and other business teams in understanding performance and closing the books. The manager will lead the team through the remaining multi-vertical platform migration and into steady-state operations. This includes moving ingestion from batch-job schedules to event-based and hourly processing, retiring legacy paths after the modern platform is proven, and maintaining revenue flow and partner reconciliation throughout the transition. The role also includes adoption of AI-assisted development and operational tooling, with human review for changes that affect revenue. The position calls for strong technical judgment and people leadership, with responsibility for balancing migration pace against reliability, data accuracy, and maintainability. The manager will mentor engineers across levels, including staff engineers and contractors, and foster a culture of ownership, clear writing, and informed risk-taking. The role reports to the VP of Engineering and is remote, based in the U.S.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of relevant software engineering experience.
  • 5+ years as the people manager of an engineering team.
  • Proven success owning production data pipelines or an ingestion platform where correctness is critical, such as revenue, billing, or payments; FinTech or another regulated industry is ideal.
  • Experience leading a migration from a legacy system to a new platform while both systems remain in production.
  • Strong SQL and Python skills, with working knowledge of Snowflake and AWS.
  • Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow or Step Functions, a relational database such as Postgres, and pipelines that are idempotent, observable, and safe to rerun.
  • Working knowledge of data-quality practices, including reconciliation, anomaly review, and investigating data that does not match its source.
  • Experience partnering with Finance, Business Development, or other non-engineering stakeholders on data used for financial decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach engineers at different levels, including senior and staff engineers, with clear, actionable feedback.
  • Experience balancing delivery dates with technical quality on systems that cannot silently drop or double-count data.
  • Track record of using automation, including AI-assisted development, to increase team throughput.
  • Strong written communication when explaining discrepancies and decisions to people outside engineering.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience owning revenue, billing, or payments data pipelines in FinTech or another regulated industry.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, lead, and develop engineers at multiple levels, including full-time staff and contractors.
  • Own revenue accuracy by ensuring partner files, pricing rules, and warehouse figures agree with what Finance recognizes.
  • Drive the remaining migration of verticals and partners from legacy ingestion to the modern platform, including building connectors to partner API portals and retiring the old path once the new one is proven.
  • Partner with Business Development, Finance, Product, and vertical engineering leaders to sequence work, explain discrepancies, and maintain delivery commitments.
  • Manage sprint planning, project timelines, and delivery commitments to ensure predictable, high-quality execution.
  • Adopt AI-assisted development where it can accelerate migrations and operations, with human review for changes that affect revenue.
  • Guide technical decisions on pipeline design, data modeling, and pricing logic as partner contracts change.
  • Maintain engineering fundamentals, including code review, testing, documentation, and operability of daily jobs.
  • Identify delivery risks early and escalate them before they create a revenue miss.
  • Keep ingestion reliable, ensuring freshness, completeness, and clear ownership when a number appears incorrect.
  • Mentor engineers across levels, including senior and staff engineers, and provide clear, actionable feedback.
