Senior Engineering Manager, Member Experience

Omada Health
•$176,000 - $253,000•Remote

About The Position

Omada Health is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to own a significant piece of Omada's Member-facing surface. This role involves owning what gets built, in what order, and how the people building it grow. A squad owns problems from prototype to production, including maintenance and on-call rotation. At this level, the manager owns more than one squad, requiring difficult decisions about capacity allocation. The role requires staying technical, being involved in the codebase and agent workflows to review architecture, identify weak designs, and assist in incidents. Direct management focuses on shipping production work off the critical path, while managing through others focuses on the growth of those individuals. The role partners with Product Strategists who own the 'what' and 'why' of what gets built, while the Engineering Manager owns the 'can it be delivered,' 'at what cost,' and 'by when,' influencing the roadmap rather than just responding to it.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in software engineering, including 4+ years managing engineers directly.
  • Experience developing another leader (a manager who reported to you, or an engineer you grew into a tech lead or EM role with real accountability).
  • A track record shipping mission-critical software to production and managing it post-launch.
  • Experience owning prioritization and estimation for a team, including saying no and explaining why.
  • Experience giving direct developmental feedback and managing someone through underperformance with support.
  • Currently shipping, or recently shipping, production code in at least one layer of the stack (backend (Ruby, Python, ...), web frontends (React), iOS, or Android).
  • Ability to follow conversations in other layers of the stack and critically review architecture decisions.
  • Comfort with an expert-generalist team model.
  • Hands-on experience directing AI agents through real-world production changes.
  • A considered view on where AI agents help and where they produce rework.
  • Understanding of CI/CD, logging, monitoring, and telemetry at a level where you can assess operational readiness.
  • Excellent written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing managers.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development from a practical team implementation perspective.
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails, Python (Flask, FastAPI), React, native iOS (Swift, SwiftUI), native Android (Kotlin), PostgreSQL, GraphQL, AWS (RDS, SQS), Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab, Datadog, PagerDuty.

Responsibilities

  • Own delivery across your squads, including sprint shaping, prioritization, backlog grooming, and estimation.
  • Make and document prioritization decisions, and be accountable for them.
  • Own and improve cycle time, explaining changes in cycle time and differences between squads.
  • Ship production work every sprint off the critical path in the same agent workflows your builders use (on directly managed squads).
  • Review architecture, catch weak designs, and be useful in incidents (on squads managed through another manager).
  • Teach someone to navigate the system, not just navigate it yourself.
  • Partner with Product Strategists to define scope and ensure clear ownership.
  • Grow a manager if one reports to you, focusing on their growth and their squad's health.
  • Plan future team needs, including headcount, skill mix, and onboarding paths.
  • Set AI standards beyond your own boundary, document best practices, teach them, and measure adoption.
  • Take on and resolve cross-organizational engineering blockers.
  • Write down clear documentation to avoid repeated discussions.
