This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days per week in Northbrook, IL. The Senior Engineering Manager - Fire Resistance & Containment develops, executes, and implements operational strategy for the region to drive organic/inorganic growth and profitability while ensuring customer satisfaction through a deep understanding of the customer and market intelligence. This role is responsible for P&L activities, managing annual, quarterly, monthly, and weekly budget breakdowns to ensure financial targets are met. The manager will oversee cost management within assigned budgets, reporting, forecasting, workflow overviews, and providing input into growth targets. They will closely monitor and manage revenue from engineering activities, including unbilled, aging, and inactive projects, and conduct work on hand analysis to ensure balance of demand and throughput. The role drives initiatives to identify new business opportunities for the COU, anticipates customer needs by creating strong partnerships with Sales and Business Development, and provides proactive solutions for new business opportunities to secure revenue, profit margin, market share, and customer satisfaction. Building customer intimacy and establishing strong relationships through customer visits, analyzing business data and market trends is key. The manager will also participate in client seminars, conferences, and trade shows, and implement and execute capacity and capability strategies. They will review project status, project management, ensure operational delivery, and close any gaps, successfully translating customer needs into an operational plan to fulfill projects with the right resources. Furthermore, the role drives a high-performing team by managing the performance and development of team leaders and members, operating effectively in the UL matrix to support high-performance culture changes, transformation efforts, and people engagement. Accountability for results, defining accountabilities, and establishing performance objectives and metrics are crucial. Development and coaching through training, career counseling, and feedback are essential to drive high performance and morale. Ensuring understanding of and compliance with all established policies and requirements, and communicating and exemplifying UL’s Vision and Mission are also key responsibilities. The manager will lead, promote, and embrace change, collaborate and build trust within the organization and with customers, and develop strong, flexible cross-functional networks and global relationships. They will coach and mentor leaders and employees to do the same, and adhere to the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and security practices. Other duties as directed will also be performed.
