About The Position

As the Senior Engineering Manager, Cash Line at Upstart, you will lead the day-to-day operations of a high-performing engineering team responsible for delivering complex product and platform enhancements. You’ll partner closely with Product, Design, and senior leadership to establish execution systems, improve delivery predictability, and help scale a product that is already demonstrating strong market traction. The Cash Line team is building and scaling Upstart’s first in-house revolving line of credit product. The team is focused on evolving a successful MVP into a scalable, long-term platform that supports Upstart’s broader ecosystem strategy and future consumer lending experiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics, or a related field (or its equivalent) + 8 years of experience, including at least 3 years of direct people management experience
  • Experience managing and developing software engineering teams responsible for delivering customer-facing products or platforms
  • Experience establishing execution frameworks, operating models, or delivery processes within fast-paced or ambiguous engineering environments
  • Experience partnering cross-functionally with Product and Design teams to deliver complex technical initiatives
  • Experience prioritizing and delivering across multiple concurrent engineering initiatives with measurable business impact

  • Knowledge of consumer financial products, fintech platforms, or lending systems
  • Ability to evaluate engineering impact using customer, product, and business outcomes in addition to delivery metrics
  • Experience leading engineering teams through periods of rapid product growth or organizational scaling

  • Experience with mobile product development or customer-facing application experiences

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of approximately 10 engineers focused on scaling Upstart’s Cash Line product and platform capabilities
  • Establish execution frameworks, operating rhythms, and prioritization systems that improve delivery quality and predictability across the team
  • Partner closely with Product and Design leaders to execute against a complex roadmap spanning monetization, user retention, credit expansion, and platform scalability
  • Drive cross-functional alignment across engineering, product, design, and leadership stakeholders to deliver high-impact customer experiences
  • Support the team through the transition from MVP to scaled product by balancing structure with team autonomy and ownership
  • Guide technical and organizational decision-making across multiple concurrent roadmap initiatives with competing business and engineering trade-offs
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative engineering culture focused on growth, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Help shape the future growth of the Cash Line organization as the business and engineering scope expands over time
