Senior Engineering Manager, AI Workflows
About The Position
Semgrep is building Workflows, a system that combines traditional code security scanning tools with LLMs to detect, validate, and remediate security issues. The system includes an SDK for composing operations such as CLI tool calls and agent invocations, an environment for periodically executing workflows, and predefined workflows that work out of the box. The Workflows team owns these areas with assistance from platform, infrastructure, and security research teams. The Senior Engineering Manager will lead a team of 3–5 engineers while also making individual technical contributions. The role works with product management and engineering leadership to set strategic direction and develop a roadmap, establishes team goals and provides product vision, coaches engineers and supports their growth, and contributes technically to feature delivery. This is a hybrid position requiring at least three days per week in Semgrep’s San Francisco office.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience leading software engineering teams.
- Familiarity with agile development principles and iterative milestone development.
- Strong desire to help engineers and other leaders grow through coaching and mentorship.
Nice To Haves
- Expertise in at least two of the following areas: public SDK or API design and support; data workflow orchestration (for example, Metaflow or Argo Workflows); applying AI to cybersecurity problems.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of 3–5 engineers while making individual technical contributions.
- Work with the team, product management, and engineering leadership to set strategic direction and develop a quarter-over-quarter roadmap.
- Define team goals and support week-over-week execution while communicating the product’s longer-term vision.
- Coach and mentor engineers, including helping a senior engineer develop skills to lead and mentor others.
- Contribute technically to feature delivery and build a strong understanding of the team’s work.
