About The Position

BAE Systems Aerospace & Mission Systems is seeking a Senior Engineer to support the testing and execution of space flight hardware. The role combines hands-on execution of critical test paths with increased technical leadership, verifying spacecraft performance and high-impact technologies for customers’ missions. It is part of the Engineering, Science and Analysis Strategic Capabilities Unit, where the engineer will support the mentorship of junior engineers and technicians in flight hardware testing. The position focuses on spacecraft hardware integration and testing in cleanrooms and laboratory environments, including verifying requirements and calibrating performance. The engineer will implement program integration and test approaches, develop detailed assembly, integration and test (AI&T) flows, help mitigate technical risks, and lead specific test campaigns while remaining involved in hands-on execution. The role also supports identifying and specifying ground support equipment (GSE), facilities and equipment for AI&T and launch operations, as well as contributing technical information to proposals and study reports. The engineer will recommend and implement improvements that increase efficiency, reduce cost and mitigate risk while maintaining quality standards. This is an on-site role requiring work at the primary work location five days per normally scheduled week. Work may take place in an office, laboratory, production floor, cleanroom, outdoors or a remote research environment. Occasional work in production areas may require protective equipment, and access to other facilities in varying weather conditions may be necessary. Travel and local commuting between company campuses and other locations may be required. The employee is expected to maintain a regular, predictable schedule and effective working relationships, and to perform other duties as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or a related technical field, plus at least 4 years of related experience. A higher-level related degree may substitute for two years of experience per degree level; related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. The degree must be from an appropriately accredited institution.
  • Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance or applicable clearance/access, with eligibility for submission depending on program requirements after accepting an offer.
  • Experience in spacecraft environmental testing and pre- and post-validation of spacecraft systems.
  • Proficiency with spacecraft command and control systems, simulators, software test benches and electrical ground support equipment (EGSE).
  • Demonstrated experience in the test lifecycle, including development of test plans and detailed test procedures.
  • Proficiency with MS Office tools and strong general computer skills.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills for coordination across cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work on-site five days per normally scheduled week.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in one or more of Python, Go, JavaScript or Ruby.
  • Experience with GitLab and knowledge of test automation applications and tools.
  • Experience with COSMOS Command and Control Software.
  • Experience setting up and configuring RF GSE, including use of signal generators, spectrum analyzers and power meters.
  • Familiarity with software testing at unit, integration and end-to-end levels.
  • Experience assisting with cost and schedule estimation or proposal development.
  • Prior experience in space or military programs.

Responsibilities

  • Execute integration and testing of spacecraft hardware in cleanrooms and laboratory environments to verify requirements and calibrate performance.
  • Implement program integration and test approaches by developing detailed AI&T flows and assisting with technical risk mitigation.
  • Provide guidance to junior engineers and technicians and lead specific test campaigns while participating in hands-on execution.
  • Assist in identifying and specifying GSE, facilities and equipment needed for AI&T and launch operations.
  • Contribute technical data and execution experience to proposal responses and study reports, with a focus on practical spacecraft AI&T architecture.
  • Suggest and implement technical solutions to improve efficiency, reduce cost and mitigate risk while maintaining rigorous quality standards.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule and effective working relationships across the department, business units, capabilities units and company.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
