About The Position

We are looking for a Building Mechanical Engineer for our Claims department. The selected individual will play an essential role in supporting our growth. As part of its continuous efforts to better control claims management and improve the insured's experience during claims, Intact is building a leading internal team for technical investigation of the cause and origin of claims. As an engineer, you will therefore be called upon daily to: Help the claims team to quickly and effectively guide the settlement process for claims related to various mechanical systems in a building. Carry out mandates for our internal and external experts and work in collaboration with building appraisers. Meet with the insured and thoroughly understand the circumstances surrounding their claim. Document the premises, issue and record your opinion regarding the probable cause of the damage. In addition to recording your opinion in writing, you will also be called upon to intervene to contribute to the resolution of ongoing conflicts in claims by providing your technical expertise. Participate in joint expert assessments of parts and specimens related to the cause of the claims. Record and manage the storage of parts related to your files. Any other related task.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or relevant applied sciences with at least five years of experience is required.
  • Must be a member in good standing of a professional order related to the relevant scientific field.
  • Bilingual (French; English). Need to interact regularly with colleagues across the country.
  • More than 5 years of relevant experience as a forensic engineer in building mechanics.
  • Ability to communicate fluently both orally and in writing for the popularization of the cause and origin of the claim.
  • You will be called upon to testify in court to present your expert opinion.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada from the anticipated start date and throughout their employment and are solely responsible for maintaining their work eligibility.

  • Experience in insurance and as an expert before the courts would be a significant asset.
