About The Position

Shermco is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to design and upgrade medium- and low-voltage electrical distribution systems for industrial, commercial, healthcare, pharmaceutical, and mission-critical facilities. The role combines technical leadership with client-facing engineering advisory work. The engineer will develop electrical infrastructure solutions, lead projects, mentor junior engineers, and help customers improve power-system reliability, safety, and performance. This is a hybrid position, generally requiring three to four days per week in the office, depending ultimately on client needs. The role requires a strong background in medium- and low-voltage system design, equipment specification, power-system studies, and customer relationship management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, or an equivalent alternate degree with relevant work experience.
  • At least 6 years of experience in medium- and low-voltage power-system engineering.
  • Experience designing electrical distribution systems from utility service entrance through medium- and low-voltage distribution equipment.
  • Experience with medium- and low-voltage switchgear and distribution systems and equipment.
  • Experience with transformers and transformer protection.
  • Experience with protective relaying and protection control systems.
  • Experience with UPS systems, ATS systems, and emergency power systems.
  • Strong client-facing communication skills.
  • Ability to lead engineering projects and mentor junior engineers.
  • Experience preparing engineering reports, technical specifications, and construction documents.
  • Experience using SKM and AutoCAD.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, industrial, airport, or mission-critical facilities.
  • Experience with utility coordination and service entrance design.
  • Experience with commissioning and field support.

Responsibilities

  • Lead conceptual, preliminary, and detailed engineering design for medium- and low-voltage electrical distribution systems.
  • Develop and review one-line diagrams, equipment layouts, construction drawings, technical specifications, and engineering calculations.
  • Design and specify medium- and low-voltage switchgear; low-voltage switchboards, panelboards, and distribution equipment; transformers; protective relaying systems; motor control center systems; UPS systems; automatic transfer switches; emergency and standby power systems; grounding systems; and metering, monitoring, and SCADA systems.
  • Support relay, breaker, and switchgear replacement and modernization projects.
  • Evaluate existing infrastructure and recommend technical solutions to improve reliability, capacity, and safety.
  • Coordinate with electric utilities on service requirements and system modifications.
  • Review equipment submittals and provide technical recommendations.
  • Perform and review short-circuit, protective-device coordination, arc-flash, power-quality, harmonic, and grounding studies.
  • Use SKM and AutoCAD.
  • Serve as lead engineer for medium- and low-voltage infrastructure projects.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, engineering deliverables, and budgets.
  • Coordinate engineering resources and assign work to junior engineers.
  • Review engineering deliverables for quality and technical accuracy.
  • Support construction activities, equipment commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Advise customers on facility needs and electrical infrastructure planning.
  • Lead customer meetings and present engineering recommendations.
  • Assist customers in evaluating future capital projects and modernization programs.
  • Provide technical support during planned outages and emergent power-system issues.
  • Support proposal development, scope creation, and technical sales efforts.
