E2 Consulting Engineers, LP•Pasadena, CA
•$150,000 - $200,000•Onsite

About The Position

E2 Consulting Engineers, LP is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead engineering and design for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, typically ranging from 10 MW to 500+ MW. The role delivers complete, coordinated designs from early development through detailed engineering, issued-for-construction design, and construction support. It requires strong experience in power systems, renewable integration, and multidisciplinary coordination, including high-voltage interconnections, battery systems, and grid compliance. The Senior Engineer develops and reviews electrical design deliverables, supports interconnection and power-system studies, coordinates with civil, structural, transmission, and equipment-vendor teams, and helps deliver project engineering packages. The role also supports procurement, construction, commissioning, and client engagements, while mentoring junior staff and contributing to E2’s internal engineering standards and renewable and storage capabilities. The position operates in a professional office environment using standard office equipment such as computers and phones. It requires the ability to sit or stand and move freely for up to eight hours per day. Local candidates only.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 7–12+ years of relevant experience in power systems, renewables, or energy storage.
  • Demonstrated experience in utility-scale BESS or solar-plus-storage projects.
  • Strong understanding of medium- and high-voltage electrical systems.
  • Strong understanding of inverter-based resources (IBRs).
  • Strong understanding of protection and controls.
  • Experience with power-system study tools such as ETAP, PSCAD, SKM, or PSLF.
  • Knowledge of applicable IEEE, NEC, NFPA, UL, and utility standards.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required or ability to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering and design of utility-scale BESS projects, typically 10 MW to 500+ MW.
  • Develop and review one-line and three-line diagrams, AC and DC system layouts, equipment specifications, and grounding, protection, and control schemes.
  • Define system architecture, including DC-coupled versus AC-coupled configurations.
  • Support interconnection processes and coordinate with utilities.
  • Review and interpret system impact studies and facility studies.
  • Coordinate or perform load-flow, short-circuit, protection-coordination, and harmonic analyses.
  • Ensure compliance with utility and ISO/RTO requirements, including CAISO and WECC requirements.
  • Coordinate with civil, structural, and transmission teams on site layout, grading constraints, equipment foundations, trenching, and high-voltage interconnection design.
  • Coordinate with battery-supplier and inverter-manufacturer OEM vendors.
  • Support the project lifecycle from development through issued-for-construction design.
  • Prepare engineering packages, drawings, and technical reports.
  • Support procurement by developing technical specifications and evaluating bids.
  • Assist with project scheduling, cost estimating, and risk identification.
  • Respond to requests for information and provide field-engineering support during construction.
  • Review shop drawings and vendor submittals.
  • Support commissioning activities and system energization.
  • Serve as a technical lead in client meetings and design reviews.
  • Support proposals, scope development, and level-of-effort estimates.
  • Provide clients with technical guidance on BESS technologies and design decisions.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers.
  • Support development of internal standards, templates, and best practices.
  • Contribute to E2’s renewable and storage engineering capabilities.
