InterAgency•Washington, DC
•$140,000 - $165,000•Onsite

About The Position

InterAgency Inc. is seeking a licensed Senior Professional Engineer with significant pipe experience to support linear water infrastructure program management at DC Water. The role supports planning, condition assessment, renewal strategy, and technical review. The engineer will provide sound engineering judgment, evaluate project delivery teams’ work, mentor junior staff, seal technical deliverables as needed, and interface effectively with the client. The position supports annual and comprehensive updates to the utility’s capital improvement program (CIP) and linear facilities plans, develops risk-based prioritization and renewal recommendations, and provides technical leadership over engineering deliverables. It also involves field and condition-assessment work, coordination with operations staff on service-preserving shutdown and isolation strategies, and rapid engineering support during main breaks and other emergencies. This is a full-time, exempt position requiring regular presence at client offices, with periodic presence at the home office and at field and project sites throughout the DC metro region. Office work includes computer use, technical reading, data analysis, and communication. Periodic field visits may involve uneven terrain and active construction sites, required personal protective equipment, and utility site safety protocols. Reasonable accommodation is available as needed. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The company cannot provide employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
  • Current Professional Engineer (PE) license. Candidates licensed in another state must be able to obtain DC licensure by reciprocity within six months of hire.

  • Experience translating condition assessment data into renewal recommendations and capital project scopes.
  • Experience preparing construction cost opinions for linear projects.
  • Strong technical writing skills and ability to present findings to utility staff and leadership.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project and field sites throughout the DC metro region.
  • Ability to perform office duties involving computer use, technical reading, data analysis, and communication, with reasonable accommodation as needed.
  • Ability to conduct periodic field visits involving uneven terrain and active construction sites, use required personal protective equipment, and follow utility site safety protocols, with reasonable accommodation as needed.
