The role covers new construction, expansions, renovations, repairs, and upgrades, with responsibility for multidisciplinary coordination and alignment between electrical and mechanical designs. The engineer oversees technical work from programming and conceptual design through construction, startup, commissioning, turnover, and closeout. The position coordinates internal disciplines and external stakeholders, supports procurement and construction administration, evaluates existing facilities and critical infrastructure, and provides owner’s representative and operational support. The role also supports client relationships, mentors team members, and contributes to consistent engineering standards and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or another applicable engineering discipline from an accredited program.
  • At least 5 years of progressive engineering, design, construction, commissioning, facility assessment, or project management experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical and mechanical infrastructure systems and their interfaces, with technical depth in at least one engineering discipline and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary design, construction, commissioning, and operational requirements.
  • Working knowledge of applicable building, mechanical, electrical, energy, fire and life safety codes, industry standards, permitting requirements, and engineering quality practices.
  • Experience leading design reviews, preparing technical documents, administering construction, managing consultants and contractors, and delivering projects within scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including assessing existing conditions, evaluating alternatives, identifying risk, and communicating practical recommendations to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Excellent written, verbal, meeting facilitation, and client-facing communication skills; ability to organize work, establish accountability, and drive decisions among diverse project participants.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and project scheduling tools.
  • Ability to visit active construction and operating facilities, comply with site safety requirements, and travel as required by client and project needs.
  • Ability to travel 25%-50%.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain licensure.
  • 8 years of progressive engineering, design, construction, commissioning, facility assessment, or project management experience preferred.
  • Experience with data centers, mission-critical facilities, manufacturing, process, utility, or other industrial environments is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, BIM coordination, engineering analysis software, and construction management platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and coordinate design criteria, basis-of-design documents, calculations, specifications, drawings, equipment selections, and technical reports across facility systems.
  • Provide technical oversight of electrical systems, including utility service, power distribution, substations, switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, generators, grounding, lighting, controls, and power monitoring.
  • Provide technical oversight of mechanical systems, including HVAC, chilled-water and refrigerant systems, cooling towers, pumps, piping, ventilation, plumbing, fire protection, fuel systems, and associated controls.
  • Evaluate system capacity, reliability, redundancy, energy efficiency, maintainability, and operational risk, and coordinate integrated solutions for new and existing facilities.
  • Serve as a senior technical resource for resilient, high-availability infrastructure and critical equipment.
  • Manage engineering activities from programming and conceptual design through construction, startup, commissioning, turnover, and closeout while meeting client requirements, codes, safety expectations, quality standards, schedule, and budget.
  • Coordinate internal disciplines, architects, consultants, contractors, vendors, commissioning providers, operations personnel, and authorities having jurisdiction to resolve technical interfaces and support constructability, maintainability, operability, and phased implementation.
  • Develop and manage scopes of work, requests for proposals, bid packages, technical clarifications, proposal evaluations, contractor recommendations, and contract exhibits; support procurement and vendor selection.
  • Lead project planning and controls, including engineering budgets, schedules, resource plans, risk registers, decision logs, change management, document control, progress reporting, and technical communications.
  • Perform and document design, constructability, value engineering, and code compliance reviews; conduct field observations and review submittals, shop drawings, and requests for information; support punch-list activities and corrective-action verification.
  • Provide construction administration and field engineering support, monitor contractor performance and installation quality, and verify compliance with approved documents, project requirements, and safe work practices.
  • Support commissioning and turnover by reviewing test procedures, participating in functional performance testing, resolving deficiencies, verifying training and documentation, and coordinating record drawings and operations and maintenance information.
  • Conduct facility assessments, due diligence, condition evaluations, capacity studies, reliability and redundancy reviews, and investigations of existing systems; prepare recommendations, conceptual solutions, implementation plans, and order-of-magnitude cost estimates.
  • Provide owner’s representative and operational support, including troubleshooting, incident and root-cause investigations, emergency response coordination, vendor oversight, and planning repairs or upgrades in active facilities while minimizing risk and disruption.
  • Maintain accurate project and asset records for critical systems, equipment, controls, wiring, cabling, and infrastructure modifications.
