About The Position

The Producibility Engineer is expected to pull together a cross functional engineering team or consult with product owners or Subject Matter Experts on an as needed basis. TPE engineering accountabilities are defined by part families, regardless of product model. In this role, engineers are expected to become very familiar with part families with emphasis on understanding design and manufacturing similarities and differences for components in their assigned part family. As part of the Gas Turbine Products Engineering (GTPE) organization, Turbine Production Engineering (TPE) provides technical support to manufacturing and supply chain partners relating to production of Solar’s gas turbine components and assemblies. The TPE Producibility Engineer’s primary role is to provide technical input and solutions in the following areas: Leads design evaluations for producibility enhancements Drives part family design standardization Supports new manufacturing technology development for production readiness Reviews and executes production design change requests in Windchill

Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering / Manufacturing Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Managing Multiple Priorities: Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.
  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Fundamental knowledge of gas turbine theory, understanding of engineering principles, and basic design practices.
  • Basic knowledge of Materials & Processes such as plating/coating, heat treatments, brazing/welding and material testing methods
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes for investment castings, sand castings, forgings, sheet metal, and precision machined components
  • Basic knowledge of machining and NDT inspection processes
  • Experience in the review and dispositioning of discrepant material (Material Review Board)
  • Basic knowledge of quality practices & processes related to production
  • Experience with basic Stress/Strain calculations
  • Geometric dimensional and tolerance specifications (ASME Y14.5M-1994), design/drawing practices, CREO (or related CAD system), structural, Excel, and technical writing
  • Ability to read and interpret inspection results from CMM and similar reports
  • Develops detailed engineering designs and specifications.
  • Evaluates and selects materials, equipment, and suppliers.
  • Conducts feasibility studies and cost analyses to determine project feasibility.
  • Designs and develops prototypes and tests to validate design concepts.
  • Analyzes and interprets test data to identify design flaws and recommend improvements.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure design meets project requirements and timelines.
  • Uses effective decision-making approaches such as consultative, command, or consensus.
