About The Position

The Senior Staff Engineer, Viking Design Transfer will spearhead the design transfer of a cutting-edge analytical IVD (in vitro diagnostics) instrument. This is a high-impact, on-site leadership role in a fast-paced environment, requiring exceptional technical expertise, cross-functional collaboration, and a proactive mindset. As Senior Staff Engineer, you will guide a multidisciplinary team of engineers from design transfer to manufacturing. You will play a central role in ensuring the technical integrity of the instrument while balancing complex and often competing requirements from software, consumables, product design, and manufacturing stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical, or related Engineering discipline.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience with demonstrated success in hardware design for complex instruments or medical devices.
  • 4+ years of direct people management experience in an engineering leadership role.
  • Strong background in both mechanical and electrical design for product development.
  • Proven experience managing and delivering projects under tight schedules and shifting priorities.
  • Deep understanding of product development lifecycle, from concept through design transfer and manufacturing ramp-up.
  • Experience working with software/firmware teams and an appreciation of embedded systems development.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance testing, ideally for medical or IVD devices.
  • Exceptional communication, cross-functional collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Must be on-site 5 days a week and thrive in a highly interactive, hands-on environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of mechanical and electrical engineers in the design transfer of an analytical IVD instrument into procurement and manufacturing.
  • Own end-to-end responsibility for the hardware design transfer under tight timelines, ensuring manufacturing and operations teams are successful in their timelines to deliver instruments through R&D and NPI.
  • Drive engineering design release process by convening and enabling design and technical reviews in a timely manner. Discharging this responsibility will require close collaboration with QA, Supply Chain, Instrument and Integration teams.
  • Engage with supply chain to identify tactical and strategic sourcing issues; then be the glue that connects the design and supply chain teams to deploy creative solutions to maintain product release timeline and quality.
  • Work in close collaboration with manufacturing, instrument, SW and system integration teams to develop and deploy manufacturing process test methods (in-line and EoL). Identify fixturing needs and develop fixtures for assembly and tests.
  • Provide engineering guidance to shape the interactions with external laboratories to plan and execute product testing, verification, validation, and certification activities.
  • Drive proactive risk identification and mitigation, using sound judgment and engineering rigor.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture, bringing a hands-on, team-first approach.

Benefits

  • Play a key role in keeping our labs and production lines supplied with the right materials at the right time.
  • You'll see a direct connection between your work and our ability to build, test, and ship diagnostic products that impact patient care.
  • You'll collaborate closely with Supply Chain, Inventory, Manufacturing, and Quality in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
  • As we scale, you'll have the opportunity to refine shipping and receiving processes, contribute to new workflows, and grow your skills alongside a team that values clarity, ownership, and thoughtful execution.
