Senior Engineer - Technology Product Management

Toyota North AmericaPlano, TX

About The Position

Toyota’s Digital Innovations organization is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Software Engineer focused on building AI-enabled products. The primary responsibility of this role is to build product applications alongside AI — rapidly prototyping, experimenting, and shipping full-stack solutions that solve real business problems. You'll operate as a hands-on product builder: writing the code, shaping the experience, and iterating in tight loops with product, design, and business partners. At the core, you are a strong software engineer who uses AI in nearly everything you do to become an even better one — with real conviction about the role of AI in building products, and the curiosity and persistence to drive work to completion. Reporting to the Digital Innovations Product Strategy Manager, this role supports the Digital Innovations objective to deliver what matters most to our customers, when, where, and how they want it. By working smarter and faster, we're building a connected, customer-first enterprise that grows sales, drives revenue, and sets the pace for the future of Toyota and Lexus.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience with a track record of shipping production applications
  • Hands-on experience building with LLMs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Bedrock, or similar) — including prompt engineering, function/tool calling, and RAG architectures
  • Strong proficiency in at least one modern web framework (React, Next.js, or similar) — comfortable across the stack
  • Working knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and modern deployment practices
  • An eye for design and product craft — you care how things look, feel, and flow, not just whether they work
  • A bias for action and experimentation — you'd rather ship a rough prototype and learn than debate the perfect spec
  • Range and a strong technical mindset — equally comfortable operating as a full-stack builder one day and tackling deep engineering problems the next
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across product, design, and business teams
  • A portfolio you can walk us through — GitHub, live demos, or write-ups of AI-enabled products you’ve shipped, with your specific contribution clearly called out (required)
  • Proficiency in Python and the modern AI tooling ecosystem
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a blended, cross-functional (“fusion”) team — listens first, asks questions, and builds trust across product, design, domain, and engineering backgrounds
  • Familiarity with what makes AI reliable in production — evaluation and testing, guardrails, and responsible data handling — not just demo-building

Nice To Haves

  • Experience deploying AI applications in regulated or enterprise environments with formal security and architecture review processes
  • Background in supply chain, manufacturing, automotive, or other complex enterprise domains
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 ecosystem integrations (SharePoint, Graph API, SPFx, Teams)
  • Exposure to MLOps practices — model versioning, monitoring, and lifecycle management
  • Exposure to agentic and multi-agent design patterns, aligned to our DIAL framework
  • Experience with API, event, and integration design, and workflow or process orchestration (BPMN / Camunda)
  • Comfort operating as a "full stack builder" — wearing PM, design, and engineering hats when the moment calls for it

Responsibilities

  • Build and iterate on prototypes and production features across the full stack, using AI tools to move fast — partnering with senior engineers on the path to production
  • Use AI as a force multiplier in your own workflow to move faster, experiment more, and turn ideas into working software in days, not months
  • Partner closely with product and design to translate ambiguous problems into intuitive, well-crafted user experiences — bringing a builder's eye for what feels right
  • Integrate applications with enterprise data sources and APIs, wiring up retrieval, agents, and inference pipelines that work reliably in the real world
  • Run experiments, measure what works, and iterate quickly — bringing a hypothesis-driven mindset to everything you build
  • Learn the operation before building it — go to where the work happens, partner with domain SMEs and business owners, and ask questions first so you solve the right problem, not just a buildable one
  • Build in the quality controls that make AI reliable in production — evaluations and prompt-regression testing, hallucination and output-quality measurement, latency and token-cost management, guardrails, and PII and data handling
  • Use AI coding tools (for example, GitHub Copilot, Codex etc.) as a core part of how you work — and help raise the team’s fluency with them as they evolve
  • Collaborate with enterprise tech and security partners to move POCs into production environments
  • Stay current with the rapidly evolving AI landscape and bring fresh techniques, tools, and patterns into the team's day-to-day work

Benefits

  • A work environment built on teamwork, flexibility, and respect
  • Professional growth and development programs to help advance your career, as well as tuition reimbursement
  • Team Member Vehicle Purchase Discount.
  • Toyota Team Member Lease Vehicle Program (if applicable).
  • Comprehensive health care and wellness plans for your entire family
  • Toyota 401(k) Savings Plan featuring a company match, as well as an annual retirement contribution from Toyota regardless of whether you contribute
  • Paid holidays and paid time off
  • Referral services related to prenatal services, adoption, childcare, schools, and more
  • Tax Advantaged Accounts (Health Savings Account, Health Care FSA, Dependent Care FSA
  • Relocation assistance (if applicable)
