•$96,500 - $183,500

About The Position

AbbVie is seeking a Senior Engineer, Technology I to collaborate with technology and business groups to conceive, design, engineer, and implement full-stack software solutions that address significant scientific or business problems. The role delivers production-grade applications and services across React/TypeScript front ends, Python and Node.js back-end services, Apollo GraphQL APIs, and NoSQL data platforms, deployed as containerized workloads on Kubernetes/Amazon EKS. The engineer investigates and implements modern platforms and engineering practices that improve productivity and efficiency across business areas, advances full-stack engineering practice, and develops cross-disciplinary collaborations. The role requires high autonomy and productivity, with minimal supervisory direction, and may include technical leadership, project accountability, and initiating investigations that can be incorporated into scientific or business activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 6 years of experience, master's degree and 5 years of experience, or PhD and 0 years of experience.
  • Thorough theoretical and practical understanding of full-stack software engineering.
  • Hands-on experience delivering production applications with Python and React/TypeScript.
  • Working experience with NoSQL databases, including data modeling and performance tuning.
  • Practical experience with Docker and Kubernetes orchestration, preferably Amazon EKS, including Helm chart authoring.
  • Experience authoring and maintaining GitHub Actions CI/CD workflows, including containerized builds and publishing and automated test pipelines.
  • Strong TypeScript proficiency, including type-driven API design and shared type/code-generation workflows between client and service.
  • Proven implementation of creative technology solutions that advanced the business.
  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing, implementing, and consuming Apollo GraphQL APIs; Apollo Federation or subgraph architecture experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with AWS services such as S3, IAM, and STS.
  • Experience with Node.js server frameworks such as Hapi or Apollo Server.
  • Experience with Python service frameworks and packaging such as uv, pydantic, and httpx.
  • Experience with Redis-based caching, Datadog APM/RUM, and Playwright end-to-end testing.
  • Experience with secure SDLC practices in a regulated (GxP) environment.
  • Exposure to LLM/agent-based application development and integration with internal AI SDKs.

Responsibilities

  • Conceive, design, engineer, and implement full-stack software solutions by studying information needs, consulting users, and analyzing system flows, data usage, and work processes.
  • Demonstrate initiative and creativity in developing technology solutions.
  • Serve as a technical expert or lead projects, programs, and technical staff developing, testing, and implementing significant products, operational improvements, or new approaches at the division or business-unit level.
  • Design and build responsive, accessible React and TypeScript web experiences using modern tooling and shared design systems.
  • Design, implement, and evolve Apollo GraphQL subgraphs and federated supergraphs, including schemas, resolvers, and scalable data-loading patterns.
  • Build and operate Python back-end services, including agent/LLM-integrated services, and expose them safely and observably to front-end and downstream consumers.
  • Architect and operate NoSQL data models, including graph databases, document/key-value stores, and caches, with appropriate performance, resilience, and consistency.
  • Package and deploy applications with Docker and orchestrate workloads on Kubernetes/Amazon EKS using Helm; define production-grade manifests, charts, and service configurations.
  • Build and maintain GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines for builds, testing, security scanning, image publishing, supergraph composition, and deployment across environments.
  • Instrument services and clients with observability tools such as Datadog and use telemetry to analyze and resolve technical problems.
  • Advance the function by studying state-of-the-art tools, techniques, and computing equipment and participating in educational opportunities and professional organizations.
  • Apply proficiency across software design and development technologies, programming languages, data integration and storage, network connectivity, and virtualization/cloud environments.
  • Work with high autonomy and productivity and remain accountable for project scope, budget, completion within budget constraints, scheduled completion, and successful and timely delivery of tasks under direct and matrix control.
  • Initiate meaningful and reliable investigations that may be incorporated into scientific or business activities.

Benefits

  • Paid time off, including vacation, holidays, and sick leave.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance for eligible employees.
  • 401(k) for eligible employees.
  • Eligibility to participate in short-term incentive programs.
