About The Position

The Senior Engineer – Technical Field Services provides engineering support for NCEMC’s diesel generation facilities, combustion turbine plants, mobile substations, and member cooperative support activities. This position applies engineering experience to support reliable operations, regulatory compliance, project execution, equipment troubleshooting, technical documentation, and continuous improvement across generation and field services assets. The role works closely with internal teams, plant personnel, contractors, vendors, and member cooperatives to help ensure safe, compliant, and dependable service.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited engineering program is required.
  • Must be a registered Professional Engineer in North Carolina.
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of electric utility operations, project management, preventative and predictive maintenance, and all safety practices.
  • Must be able to work effectively with internal and external contacts, provide technical leadership without direct supervisory authority, and coordinate multiple priorities across generation, compliance, field services, and member support functions.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to manage multiple complex projects at the same time.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, written communication, procedure development, documentation, teamwork, responsiveness, and stakeholder coordination skills are required.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible engineering work in utility operations, power generation, technical field services, substation support, system protection, compliance, or related electric utility functions is preferred.
  • Experience supporting diesel generation, combustion turbine facilities, mobile substations, field testing, or NERC compliance activities is strongly preferred.
  • Other preferred knowledge areas include diesel generation, combustion turbine plants, technical field services, protective relay and control systems, substation equipment, mobile substations, and applicable reliability compliance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for Technical Field Services, including field engineering, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance coordination, and technical issue resolution.
  • Support NCEMC diesel generation facilities, including plant reliability, maintenance planning, outage readiness, troubleshooting, and long-term asset needs.
  • Provide technical support for combustion turbine plants, including project coordination, equipment analysis, outage support, and plant upgrade review.
  • Coordinate assigned PRC and PER compliance activities, including procedures, evidence, documentation, training support, and timely completion of compliance obligations.
  • Provide technical guidance to field services personnel on testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, mobile substation readiness, and safe work practices.
  • Support the Mobile Substation Program through readiness planning, procedures, maintenance coordination, deployment support, and member cooperative assistance.
  • Analyze operating, maintenance, testing, and compliance trends to improve reliability, safety, regulatory compliance, and operational readiness.
  • Develop and maintain engineering records, drawings, procedures, test records, maintenance documentation, and configuration control information.
  • Coordinate with plant personnel, field services staff, compliance teams, member cooperatives, contractors, consultants, vendors, and internal departments.
  • Support budgeting, capital project planning, procurement coordination, contract support, invoice review, and lifecycle asset management activities.
  • Provide data, analysis, technical input, and reporting support for regulatory, compliance, operational, project, and member service activities.
  • Participate in emergency response, storm support, outage response, field deployment, and plant support activities as needed.
