About The Position

Reporting to the Supervisor/Manager, this position is responsible for leading the execution and coordination of engineering activities. The position is frequently involved in more complex and non-routine engineering challenges. The role requires high levels of technical aptitude, problem-solving ability, and excellent teamwork skills to be successful. It influences project decisions having a significant impact on the company and applies technical knowledge to help promote a safe work environment and to enhance customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited college.
  • Eight years of applicable engineering experience or a combination of education and applicable engineering experience.
  • Master’s degree counts as one year.
  • Professional Engineering License issued by the Puerto Rico Examining Board for Engineers, Architects, Surveyors and Landscape Architects.
  • Business knowledge in the utility & regulated environment.
  • Proven experience applying sound judgment to make decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship development skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact with internal and external customers.
  • Excellent team player and ability to prioritize assignments to meet commitments.
  • Problem-solving skills with proven ability to resolve engineering issues.
  • Mentor to junior engineers, specialists, and designers.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in related subject such as engineering, computer science, business, etc. or Graduate level work in Engineering, Business Administration or Project Management Certification.
  • Minimum of three related career experiences (i.e., changes in technical job responsibilities, which may or may not include a change in department) OR Lead Member of a recognized industry committee.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and supports projects within scope, schedule, and cost.
  • Leads and performs assignments in specialized areas requiring extensive engineering expertise.
  • Reviews functional specifications for completeness and considers practical limitations.
  • Coordinates design activities as a member of a multi-disciplinary team of engineers.
  • Reviews and authenticates designs.
  • Work planning, coordination, budgeting, and cost estimating.
  • Develops and updates single line diagrams, design drawings, and equipment specifications.
  • Supports material procurement as a subject matter expert.
  • Conducts high-level QA/QC design review, closes gaps, and manages lessons learned.
  • Provides technical support to field and construction groups.
  • Utilizes, develops, and improves engineering processes and standards.
  • Provides reporting, including presentations to work groups and senior management.
  • Assists the Supervisor in managing engineering contractors.
  • Participates, leads, and represents LUMA actively in industry technical activities.
  • Acts as an expert witness or provides expert opinions as required.
  • May be required to work extended hours including major storm restoration work and associated drills as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
