About The Position

The position also provides technical support to production and develops expertise in aircraft seat design standards and regulations.

Requirements

  • At least a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Civil Engineering or related field and 5 years of progressive experience as a Structural Engineer, Stress Engineer, FEA Analyst, Crash Safety Engineer, CAE Engineer or related role.
  • OR at least a master’s degree or its equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Civil Engineering or related field and 3 years of experience as a Structural Engineer, Stress Engineer, FEA Analyst, Crash Safety Engineer, CAE Engineer or related role.
  • At least 3 years of experience translating actual problems to the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) model, interpreting analysis results and selecting the best solution.
  • At least 3 years of experience with investigating opportunities to limit required testing and reduce certification costs with FEA analysis.
  • Demonstrable experience with CAE software including Hypermesh/ LSDYNA, Hyperview/LS-PREPOST.
  • Demonstrable experience working with virtual anthropomorphic dummy (vATD) injury simulation and Impact related analysis using LS-DYNA.
  • Non-US Person - Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the company’s immigration sponsorship now or in the future. The company will not offer immigration sponsorship for this position. The company will not seek an export authorization for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and check structural engineering data produced by other engineering groups to evaluate structural integrity and ensure it meets the structural requirements for FAA and aircraft manufacturer acceptance as approved data.
  • Develop finite element models to aid in the development of design and certification data.
  • Generate Stress analysis notes in a usable, traceable file that serves as a historical substantiation record to the seating component modifications.
  • Create and develop structural substantiation reports that are used to substantiate changes.
  • Create, develop, and implement test procedures as required to obtain certifiable allowable data for use by the company.
  • Provide input and suggestions for continuous improvement of various department procedures, control flows and systems.
  • Provide technical support to Collins production during the manufacturing and installation phases of Collins developed designs.
  • Develop expertise on aircraft seats design concepts, industry design standards, FAR’S and drafting techniques.
