About The Position

Microchip Technology Inc. is seeking a Senior Engineer with 5-7 years of experience for its SCG-FW division, which designs and develops ECs for major computer manufacturers. This role is based in our Hauppauge office. The engineer will be responsible for understanding specifications, working with existing products for firmware bootloader flow and design, and unit testing new firmware features. The position involves developing Test EC APP firmware, software utilities, and debugging applications on test hardware like FPGAs and evaluation boards for Bootloader functional checks. The engineer will also develop firmware and software test suites for embedded processors (ARM) and functional blocks (e.g., SPI, UART, SMB, crypto blocks, ESPI). This role includes resolving design and development issues and supporting internal groups like Validation, Test, and QA to ensure product readiness for production.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years experience
  • Embedded programming on microcontroller - C/C++
  • Experience with common microcontroller and/or embedded processing platforms such as ARM Cortex M4/M55
  • Experience with common debugging tools to troubleshoot embedded code and implement corrections.
  • Integrated Development Environment (IDE) Software Programs
  • Firmware development experience using on Microchip PIC Microcontrollers using MPLab IDEs is a plus
  • Understanding of higher-level languages, object-oriented methodologies, user-interface implementation for Hardware and software debug
  • Demonstrated skill in independently using electronics lab equipment to develop/troubleshoot
  • Proficient on ARM processor Cortex M4/M55 architecture & features
  • Proficient on Keil, Visual Studio, MPLAB tools
  • Python and/or Perl scripting language is a plus
  • Hardware integration for interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, USB, etc.
  • Security - crypto algorithms AES, HASH, ECC, PQC
  • Hands on FPGA or any development platform
  • Strong team player, proactive, motivated and self driven.

Nice To Haves

  • Firmware development experience using on Microchip PIC Microcontrollers using MPLab IDEs
  • Python and/or Perl scripting language
  • Hands on FPGA or any development platform

Responsibilities

  • Firmware architecture – define & outline, develop the basic architecture of the firmware as per specification.
  • Develops coding for new products, and maintains and modify code for existing products using embedded C/C++ programming, in accordance with software specifications.
  • Maintain software design documentation
  • Write test reports for the newly added feature set
  • Develop the base features needed for the team to develop test firmware for unit testing the feature addition
  • Set and codify firmware guideline & best practice
  • Work with internal groups to get the part production worthy
  • Works with project team members to identify and mitigate development risks and produce development plans
  • Conduct Software requirements analysis, software risk analysis, and software performance analysis
