Caterpillar Inc. seeks Senior Engineer - Design at its facility located at 2427 E Engine Drive, Chillicothe, IL 61523. Perform structural simulation of diesel engine and fuel systems in support of research and development programs, field issue resolutions, and new technology introduction. Conduct analytical simulations using ABAQUS, Hypermesh, FE-Safe. Interpret and report results. Recommend design improvements/enhancements, and decisions may significantly impact product performance, durability, quality, reliability, and serviceability. Failure analysis and investigation. Work closely with design and test counterparts in developing new components, systems, and simulation processes. Ability to communicate technical information in a concise and accurate manner. Telecommuting: Up to 2 days/week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or a related field plus 5 years of experience as a mechanical engineer or related occupation.
  • Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or a related field plus 3 years of experience as a mechanical engineer or related occupation.
  • 3 years of experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Structural Mechanics/Dynamics simulation, Fatigue Life and Bolted Joint structural simulation.
  • 3 years of experience with ABAQUS, Hypermesh; COBRA-COMFAT.
  • Diesel engine structural robustness, reliability and durability.

Responsibilities
