About The Position

Caterpillar Inc. seeks Senior Engineer - Design - Electrification at its facility located at 2427 E. Engine Drive, Chillicothe, IL 61523. This role involves conceiving and providing practical product design applications using complex technical principles. The engineer will create concepts and direct the design and development of complex engineering projects, preparing concept, design, development, and feasibility studies. Responsibilities include leading and coordinating design, analysis, and computer simulation efforts, preparing development plans, and ensuring scheduled dates are met. The role acts as a development team leader, interacting with plant locations and various engineering departments. Duties also include conducting technical evaluations of major systems on competitive products, coordinating product tests, and providing guidance to other engineers. The engineer will evaluate, define, and resolve design and manufacturing problems, and travel to Caterpillar plants, dealerships, and customer job sites to solve design problems or field-test locations. Technical expertise will be used in problem resolution processes when interfacing with test and evaluation, service, plant personnel, suppliers, and consultants. Collaboration with manufacturability teams to resolve manufacturing and statistical process control issues is also required. No telecommuting is allowed. Up to 10% domestic travel is required.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 2 years of experience in an Electrical Engineering or related occupation.
  • Employment experience with AutoCAD/Bluebeam for schematics.
  • Employment experience with design and development of DC-DC, AC-DC, and DC-AC converters for high efficiency and high-reliability applications.
  • Employment experience with circuit simulations using tools like MATLAB/Simulink, PSpice, LTspice, or PSIM.
  • Employment experience with selection and evaluation of power semiconductor devices including: IGBTs, MOSFETs, and SiC/GaN.
  • Employment experience with NEC, EPA, SAE J1995, OSHA, IEC, ROHS and UL.
  • Employment experience with up to 1.5KV converter design and architecture.
  • Employment experience with at least one of the following: Rectifiers, Transformers (Dry and wet type), Batteries (NMC and LFP).
  • Employment experience with PVsyst/etap for incident and short-circuit analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, define, and resolve design and manufacturing problems.
  • Travel to Caterpillar plants, dealerships, and customer job sites to solve design problems or to field-test locations to evaluate product improvements.
  • Use technical expertise and product knowledge in problem resolution processes when interfacing with test and evaluation, service, plant personnel, suppliers, and consultants.
  • Work with manufacturability teams to resolve problems with manufacturing and statistical process controls.
