About The Position

The Senior Engineer, Cybersecurity Engineering owns end-to-end delivery of secure command-and-control systems for critical infrastructure environments. The role spans requirements, design, integration, validation, deployment, and lifecycle support within a V-Model framework, working across multidisciplinary teams. It combines disciplined systems engineering with deep technical expertise. The engineer designs and delivers cybersecurity architectures and platform environments, including Active Directory domains, Windows servers and workstations, virtualized clusters, Linux-based security appliances, network switches, and firewalls. The position also produces traceable engineering and configuration documentation, integrates and hardens commercial off-the-shelf solutions, and verifies functional and cybersecurity capabilities against acceptance criteria. The role supports onsite customer deployment and acceptance testing, including physical installation, network commissioning, Active Directory integration, system configuration, vulnerability assessments, and staff training. It also drives continuous improvement through lessons learned, updated engineering standards and procedures, mentoring junior engineers, and serving as a technical point of contact in customer communications. Travel up to 25%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • 5 to 7 years of hands-on experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to produce formal engineering documentation and present technical content to a range of audiences.
  • Knowledge of engineering methodologies.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status.
  • Ability to obtain site access credentials at nuclear power plants and government facilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in project-based work with requirements-driven deliverables.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols and small- to mid-sized network design.
  • Experience with virtualized clusters.
  • Direct experience delivering systems in nuclear power, defense, or other NRC/DOE/DOD-regulated environments, including familiarity with nuclear communications systems, terminology, and NRC 10 CFR 73.54 compliance processes.
  • CISSP or equivalent certification; GICSP, Security+, or CASP+.
  • Familiarity with NIST SP 800-82, NIST SP 800-53, and IEC 62443 standards for industrial and critical infrastructure cybersecurity.

Responsibilities

  • Translate customer cybersecurity needs into traceable system- and component-level specifications using the Standard V-Model, in collaboration with Project Engineering Leads.
  • Contribute to engineering cost estimates and communicate requirements-related issues and risks to program leadership and customers.
  • Design cybersecurity architectures for AIM SCS and COTS-based command-and-control solutions, including network segmentation, access control, encryption, secure communications, and physical security subsystem integration, with traceability to applicable NEI 08-09 and CIS benchmark controls.
  • Architect platform environments of 20–30 Windows servers and workstations in an Active Directory domain, including Group Policy security controls, virtualized cluster layouts, storage systems, Linux-based security appliances, network switches, and firewalls.
  • Produce and maintain virtual and network design plans, architecture diagrams, configuration specifications, and cybersecurity control mapping matrices with traceability to system requirements.
  • Stand up, configure, and deliver environments of 20–30 servers and workstations within an Active Directory domain.
  • Perform server and network deployment across the product delivery lifecycle, prioritizing deliverables, validating product feature sets, and maintaining schedule and budget alignment.
  • Integrate COTS solutions through system hardening, vulnerability analysis, documentation, and patching.
  • Diagnose and resolve integration issues systematically, creatively, and analytically, documenting resolution paths.
  • Maintain configuration management records throughout builds, documenting decisions, changes, and deviations for a complete audit trail.
  • Verify product feature sets and confirm functional and cybersecurity capabilities meet acceptance criteria before formal test completion.
  • Collaborate on cybersecurity test procedures mapped through a Requirements Traceability Matrix and validate component- and system-level compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Support acceptance testing by conducting vulnerability assessments and security scans and dispositioning findings.
  • Support onsite customer deployments, including physical installation, network commissioning, Active Directory integration, and system configuration under site-specific cybersecurity commissioning procedures.
  • Conduct Site Acceptance Testing with customer security, IT/OT, and operations staff; resolve site-specific integration challenges and communicate technical status, test results, and issue dispositions.
  • Train facility personnel on system operation, cybersecurity maintenance, and configuration management practices, and deliver turnover packages.
  • Capture lessons learned after system deliveries and translate them into updated design standards, integration procedures, and test methodologies; share knowledge across the organization.
  • Mentor junior engineers and serve as a technical point of contact in direct customer communications.
  • Perform other duties as required.
