About the position
We are seeking an experienced engine programmer to join our team at ArenaNet. In this role, you will have the autonomy to anticipate and overcome technical challenges as we navigate the next generation of games. Your responsibilities will include finding solutions to asset loading, memory management, networking efficiency, and performance optimization. Additionally, you will collaborate with other disciplines to provide technical support and advise on design decisions. If you enjoy problem-solving, pushing the boundaries of code, and maintaining high standards for game development, this role is perfect for you.
Responsibilities
- Leverage experience to anticipate technical challenges and stay ahead of them
- Provide solutions to asset loading, memory management, networking efficiency, and performance optimization
- Help the team by doing what needs to be done and keeping the development process smooth
- Support technical questions and provide options that prioritize code quality and performance
- Anticipate and communicate tradeoffs and concerns of technical directions
- Advise on how design decisions impact technical directions
- Help teammates solve tough problems and move the project forward
- Push the capabilities of the code base to enable new gameplay possibilities
- Maintain high standards to create an efficient and smooth-running game
Requirements
- Proficient in C++
- Experience with Unreal Engine
- Ability to anticipate and solve technical challenges
- Knowledge of asset loading and memory management
- Familiarity with networking layer and gameplay systems
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to work across disciplines and provide technical support
- Understanding of code quality and performance optimization
- Ability to advise on design decisions and their impact on technical directions
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Willingness to help teammates and maintain high standards
- Fearless in tackling low-level issues in engine internals
- Thorough knowledge of threading optimization and memory footprint reduction
